Introduction
Civil rights help protect individuals from discrimination. It is the right of the individual to receive fair treatment in the society that he lives. The civil rights protect the individual from discrimination from different entities such as governments and non-governmental organizations. Racial discrimination is related to the denial of civil rights. Discrimination means denial of specific privileges which should not be the case since it is a public right to access those privileges equally.
Research Question
The research aims to find out how racial discrimination has led to the denial of civil rights for the people of color in the USA.
Purpose of the Study
The purpose of the study is to identify to what extent racial discrimination has affected civil rights such as access to quality health, equal employment opportunities and access to justice. The research will identify the causative factors that are within the society and how the problem can be solved.
Weight of the Problem
Racial discrimination has impacted negatively on the black population in America. In 2015-2016, 44% of black students were expelled or suspended from school. The impact it has is that it affects their access to employment. They go through a discriminative justice system because due to lack of jobs, some end up being criminals which have stereotyped them as criminals (Decker et al., 2019). The research work by Priest and Williams in 2018 Suggest that racial discrimination affects the ability to access quality healthcare. Healthcare is a civil right that should not be denied to anyone based on their race. It is a form of racial discrimination that denies the right of access to health. It is crucial to find out the various dynamics that link racial discrimination to health, and these are the facts that this research aims to find (Priest & Williams, 2018).
Contribution to the Current Understanding of the Issue
The proposed research study aims to highlight the issue and make the public aware of the current problem and its impact on the lives of African-Americans. Highlighting the problems will help the wider audience understand what African Americans go through help advocate for change to a society that promotes social justice and equality for all without racial discrimination (Decker et al., 2019). Racial discrimination affects civil rights, and it is essential to find out the impact (Bloom, 2019).
Contribution of the Study to Social Work
The issue of poverty is an essential aspect of social work. Poverty forms a large part of the problems that social work attempts to highlight and solve. In America, African -Americans constitute the majority of the group that lives in housing programs supported by government and non-governmental organizations (Decker et al., 2019). The research helps identify areas that the social work profession can focus on addressing poverty, the root cause of poverty is racial discrimination and lack of access to opportunities (Bloom, 2019).
Access to quality health care is essential for quality living. Human beings get sick at some point in their lives. Social work addresses the issue of lack of access to quality health for specific segments in the society, for example, African-Americans; racial discrimination, especially for the poor in the community affects access to quality healthcare. They cannot afford the services in a healthcare system (Bloom, 2019).
Conclusion
Justice for all and access to equal opportunities relates to social work. It helps solve the problems that people face. Understanding the impact of racial discrimination on civil-rights helps build a better inclusive society (Bloom, 2019). An inclusive community means people can access equal employment opportunities, healthcare and justice without discrimination.
