Introduction

In 2015, the American Nurses Association (ANA) Centre for Ethics and Human Rights developed and reviewed the position statement regarding various ethical topics to ensure that code ethics of nurses is applicable in the recent nursing practice and is updated with the modern healthcare transformation (ANA, 2018). This was aimed to identify skills that are related to nursing practice, create units for ongoing nursing ethics education and make journals to assist nurses in making ethically based decisions during risky situations. Such situations include reporting intimidations to patient welfare, giving care to patients with contagious diseases and sensibly report dubious practices of colleagues.

In regards to the code of ethics for nurses, it assists nurses to navigate difficult daily ethical issues in different practice sites. The center's position statement care for the nursing professionals by giving a description, explanation or a commendation for opting to take a particular action during a situation (YouTube, 2018). The code allows nurses to deliver reliably respectful, humanitarian and noble care to patients. Therefore, for nurses to accomplish their ethical responsibility to patients, it is essential for the nurses to be entitled to a variety and up-to-date information regarding ethical practices at the workplace.

Ethical issues in the nursing profession associated with the protection of human rights and social justice in nursing practice. Nurses commitment and vows to serve patients and communities, sometimes it might be challenging in complex ethical dilemmas to ensure each in the society receives on time and high-quality healthcare. It requires moral courage and resilience to maintain the commitments made in the recent healthcare setups (ANA Centre for Ethics and Human Rights, 2016). Other ethical issues include the end of life decisions that assist nurses to respect their dignity and autonomy. The code seeks to inform nurses of the concerns of bioethics in instances where they need to protect both themselves and the patient (Reilly and Jurchak, 2017).
