I should never have disposed my highly valued notebook which contained all my secured phone unlocks, pins, passwords and emails. My brother had always warned me of doing that since I almost misplaced this precious document formerly. He told me that I would end up having a day full of regret if I ever lost the small book. Unlike my brother, I did not believe in bad luck. Previously, nonetheless, I had lost my sensitive notebook out of ignorance after mistakenly placing it together with unused books and papers, and these materials had been burned down by my mother. As I fell asleep at night, my instincts made me feel that something was not right although I chose to ignore it.
On the much awaited day, I woke up late that morning, having overslept and I definitely knew I would be late for class. It was the day we were to present our project which we had been waiting to accomplish our studies. The presentation was to start at 8 o'clock and I had only 10 minutes remaining to be at school. This gave me a bit of tension and uneasiness since my supervisor had offered me a warning earlier on for being late during the presentation. Before I rushed to take a quick shower, I decided to switch on my phone only to find that I could not remember the pin which I had set the previous day and saved in my lost notebook. I was also not able to access my project proposal since I had transferred it to my phone and deleted a copy from my laptop. At this point I greatly regretted not saving the proposal in my email. This also meant that I could not print it as I had planned to do on my way to school.
The situation became worse for me and I decided to seek for counsel from my elder brother, and mother. My brother began lamenting that if I had listened to his advice I would not be in such a bad situation; something that almost made me hate him for not offering any assistance to aid in my situation. The only option he gave was for me to format my phone and this would totally ruin everything that I had worked so hard for. My mother, however, assisted in safely retrieving the pin without losing my project proposal. I never knew that my mother could be of such help especially in matters pertaining to technology. I learned never to judge others unjust-fully like I did to my mother. Shortly afterwards, I took a quick shower and quickly gulped cup of coffee as I dashed out of the house running towards school.
On my way to the institute, I decided to stop a cab so that I could spend the minimum time possible although I was 30 minutes late for the presentation. Unfortunately, I realized that I had not printed my work prior to the presentation when I was already at the school compound. I got more confused and was forced to rush back to the closest cyber cafe which was around one and a half miles from the school compound since the Library was not open at that time. The situation worsened when I arrived there only to find a long queue of individuals eagerly waiting to be served. I almost gave up on attending the presentation, but I remembered my mother's advice that patience pays. I later managed to print my work after waiting on the queue for roughly 25 minutes and then walked hopelessly to school. At that time I was in the depths of despair.
I arrived back at the institution 2 hours later and found my classmates standing aimlessly outside the classroom. I decided to head direct to the staffroom to explain to my supervisor why I was late. I was shaking in fear since I expected to find the presentation for the entire class already done; a situation that would result in missing mark on my final transcript. As I walked into the office, I took a deep breath so as to relieve the stress from my body. Immediately, I looked directly at my supervisor and noticed a smile on her face; a situation which made me doubt my instinct for the first time. She asked what the matter was and I could hardly express myself since I was in deep fear. I composed myself and narrated my story to her only to realize that the presentations had not been done. She explained to me that they had been waiting for some members of the panel who had not arrived yet and as a result had been forced to reschedule.
It was now noon and the bell rang motioning all the students to head back to class so that the presentation would begin. Together with our supervisors, we arranged the room accordingly in readiness for the beginning of the exercise. During that time, my mood had changed and I was more confident since things were turning out in my favor, contrary to what I expected on my way to school. Our presentation began and luckily I was the first student to present after which my supervisor and panel congratulated me for the detailed and presentable research I had done, and four hours later, all students were successfully done with their presentation.
Conclusion
Finally, after a long day which had a difficult beginning and a good ending, I returned home very jubilant and very eager to tell my mother the good news. At first she was doubtful until I showed her my approved report. It is at this time I remembered the encouraging words she had told me when I was in high school, that hard work never goes unrewarded. I also learned to take care of my particulars and never to ignore any form of logical advice from my elders. This is indeed one of my most memorable days of my life and it is bound to remain etched at the back of my mind for a long time.
