Cambridge English dictionary gives one of the definitions of a dream as, something that one hopes for very much, although it is not likely to happen. Dreams are important. They are key factors in setting SMART, that is, specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-bound goals. In so doing, one is able to clarify ideas, focus on one's efforts and use time and resources productively. Ultimately, this results in healthy development and academic excellence and thus chances of succeeding in life are markedly increased.
My dream as a college student is to graduate with a first class degree. This is so important to me. I will stand a great chance to get a scholarship and further my education in a foreign country. To protect this dream, I had to commit to a number of things in this semester. One of them is to do all my semester's assignments in a timely manner. Also, I have taken the assignments as opportunities to do more research and overcome some challenges I face in my course. Secondly, I have attended all the course sessions for the semester. Finally, I allocated more time to go to the library and read as many books as possible.
Life in college has not been without fears too. My deepest fear is expulsion from the college. In addition to being moved to a new school, it can bring me catastrophic consequences which can significantly impact on my future prospects including my career. I am determined to ensure that this does not happen. To ensure that I do not focus on my fear I have done a lot in this semester that has brought me tremendous successes. I joined the school football team and during interschool competitions, our team emerged the winner. I also participated in music festivals and competed successfully. Lastly, I performed exquisitely on my end of the semester exams.
My semester has not been without challenges too. When I did my first continuous assessment test in AAA109, I performed so poorly. I had not grasped the course work very well. The concept appeared too hard for me and even though I had spent a lot of time studying, I still faced challenges in conceptualizing. At that moment, I felt I could not make it. I felt like giving up and enrolling in another course. I was still bold and desperately wanted to overcome. To me, since others had made it, I was not an exception. I approached a colleague, explained challenges to him and he offered to help me understand the concept.
It is a cliche to say life in college is full of challenges and to make it through, one requires self-motivation. In this semester I used Sir Winston Churchill's words that states, "Continuous effort, not strength or intelligence are the key to unlocking our potential" to motivate myself. I have worked tirelessly, reading books and doing some researches related to my course to solve some problems. I have also allocated more time to study in the library and joined a discussion group to make learning easy.
I carefully went through the semester's course objectives when the semester began. Every week I would revisit them to ensure I strictly adhered to them. I read all the recommended documents and watched all the videos as per the guidelines. I have applied the concept gained through research programs and practical sessions. The most important lesson I have learned in the course of this semester is to do all I can to the best of my abilities.
