The Dream of Pursuing a Nursing Career

Nursing is a very demanding profession that does not require a faint-hearted person (Wilkes, Cowin & Johnson, 2015). Nursing has been my dream career since childhood following the kind of help they offer to the patients. While growing up, I used to admire nurses and the passion they have for their job. Nursing involves the study of the human body, and it comes with great opportunities. Nurses usually give up all the luxury out there and dedicate all their time to the patients under their care (Wilkes, Cowin & Johnson, 2015). Helping people is what I enjoy the most, and after seeing the physical and emotional help nurses offer, I fell in love with this profession (Mimura, Griffins & Norman, 2009). By pursuing this career, I would get a chance to help people and also give back to society.

Opportunities and Passion in Nursing

Nursing is a profession with various challenges just as there are opportunities. The challenges may hinder an aspiring nurse or discourage one from finishing the training hence fails to practice nursing (Pesut, n.d.). Some of these hindrances are real while others are just perceived. Most people have a perception that nursing is a hard and strenuous course that deserves only geniuses an argument that is baseless. Any passionate person with a call to become a nurse will always excel in this profession (Mimura, Griffins & Norman, 2009). The theories that people give regarding this career are nothing to deter one from pursuing his/her dream. The nursing profession is also associated with workload with minimal time to rest or spend with family (Heinrich & Wakefield, n.d.). Once you dedicate yourself to help people, they will always be part of your family hence should balance by creating time for the family. A nursing course is one said to be very expensive making most people especially those from low-income families not pursue this course (Heinrich & Wakefield, n.d.). In most cases, less privileged students with passion for nursing tend to rely on scholarships since nursing is one course that you can pursue while doing some part-time jobs. Financial challenge is a real obstacle in this profession.

As a high school student who intends to join college soon, I have been saving money from my part-time job that will act as part of my tuition fee when I get an admission into a nursing college. I know my parents will support me, but following finance involved in this course, I believe my little savings will help reduce the load. Partying is not my thing, and I love engaging in community work during holidays, and that gives me a chance to help people and prepare for my nursing profession. Since nursing students rarely have free times for parties like others deed in college, my anti-party nature will help me a lot to fit into the system. Becoming a good nurse needs sacrifice and am ready to sacrifice anything just to become a licensed nurse (Mimura, Griffins & Norman, 2009).

Conclusion

In as much as nursing is my career choice, things may not go as planned and the nursing profession dream may just become unfulfilled. Failing to be a nurse will not deter me from becoming someone in life. Since I have a desire for helping those in need, I will go for a social work course that will enable me to work with people in the community. I will still get a chance help people not as a nurse but as a social worker. I will be in a position to help people and families enhance their well-being. It is also another way of giving back to the society directly.
