Mentoring is a process an individual with experience leads another person in the analysis and development of their own opinions. Communication is important in nursing to build a positive relationship. Leading and managing is crucial in nursing practice for developing and engaging constructive behaviors to influence patient care and organizational results in the ICU. Leaders in healthcare can manage their activities effectively by making effective decisions and creating change. Management links self-knowledge to constructive aspects of authority that is integral for professional practice, and it helps in developing strengths to apply organizational strategies in enhancing collaboration and care delivery in complex clinical settings (Yoder-Wise, 2019). Improving decision making through enlarging the view of the patient to involve organizational outcomes and social networks is essential for ICU effective delivery.
Simulation training and leadership improve team functioning to promote proper care delivery and result in improvements. Through management, in the ICU environment, people can perform their tasks effectively, and managers can position their employees in ICU to work well in healthcare. Through a pull system, it helps ICU managers to provide appropriate care for the critically ill and build relationships with other members of the staff. Team members require constant mentoring to deliver sustainable change and improvement in work practices.
Identify a source of stress you experience and how you typically manage it. Do some introspection and decide if the method of stress management you utilize is effective or not.
In the ICU, stress issues are many. In determining the life and death issues of patients, it causes stress and anxiety. Some patients tend to ask for nurses to let them die instead of staying for long in the ICU. Some family members always agree to this when they do not have enough finances to cover medical bills. Determining between death and life issues is challenging and causes stress in the long term. In managing this stress, meditation always assists. Meditation is important among various techniques as it helps to reverse stress responses. The heart and breathing rate slow down, and one feels relaxed. It normalizes the blood pressure and helps one to use oxygen sufficiently. Meditation is undertaken in under ten minutes, and it helps in reducing stress levels and anxiety. It enhances cardiovascular health and provides significant capacity for relaxation. It promotes self-awareness and lengthens the attention span. Meditation is useful in utilizing stress management as it helps to fight problems and addictions. It assists a person to have kindness and lower the age-related memory loss. Meditation allows one to focus on the present situation by forgetting the past (Buell, 2017). Through stress response, it enables one to survive medical threats and be strong in overcoming situations. It allows the body to increase the neurotransmitters of well-being and helps one focus on being calm and facilitates the brain's ability to feel rewarded. Typically meditation improves attention, enables relaxation, releases emotional turbulence, and connects one to own true self. Meditation is very helpful in managing stress in the long run.
In Box 7-3 (chapter 7), there are some tips to prevent interruptions and work more effectively. Select at least one of these (that you typically do not employ) and try it during the week. Evaluate the effectiveness from your vantage.
Interruptions are frequent in the workplace, and managing them can be difficult if time is not created for it in daily activities. The aspect that is rarely hard to employ is recognizing that some interruptions and crises are part of everyday work. Plans and actions of most people and organizations are always managed and scheduled without planning for interruptions. In working excellently, however, it is essential to recognize that disruptions are not anticipated, but they tend to occur. Therefore, in a day, a few minutes or one hour can be set to cover for interruptions among the team members, employees, and customers. In the current situation worldwide, coronavirus has become a crisis that was not anticipated in the long run. It has affected businesses and many organizations worldwide. Many firms, however, have been affected because they did not recognize the aspect of interruptions and are making losses. However, in managing time adequately, it is integral to realize that risks occur due to disruptions that happen in an environment. In recognizing the element of interruptions in the workplace, tasks will be completed in time and deliver quality and practical solutions to various approaches in the firm. Managing interruptions creates self-awareness and sufficiently plans for what is to be achieved in the long run in the workplace.

Perhaps the purpose of the meeting, where the meeting was heading, or even who was supposed to be in charge was unclear to you? Write down three things about meetings or classes like this that are the most annoying to you and analyze how the situation could have been handled better by the leader.
Being in unorganized meetings and classes are common in various institutions today. Sometimes, it is difficult to know the purpose of the meeting and who is leading. It is disturbing being in a meeting where people do not have priorities and a goal to accomplish. Many people tend to waste time in these activities through organizing meetings that do not have a purpose. However, being in a class where everybody is bored and do not have an objective is difficult to manage. The most annoying part in a meeting or a class is scheduling meetings to be longer than anticipated without a goal, and individuals multi-tasking through using phones and laptops. In these meetings, the organizers need to prepare meetings in a short time with a stated purpose and allow members to concentrate on one agenda first. Also, having prolonged meetings without breaks is annoying, and scheduling meetings during lunchtime. People do not always focus when they do not eat, and talking to people without breaks is disgusting. Leaders should learn to plan their meetings and classes simultaneously and keep their speeches and agenda brief. Through advancement in technology, extra information can be shared with the members online to avoid boredom. Also, it is essential to inform the team early about the agenda of the meeting to help them get prepared.
