Meditation and Consciousness.
Since time immemorial humans have desperately for avenues to attain higher levels of consciousness. Most of these desperate explorations has been shrouded in the oculist tendencies. An impressively sought through mysterious experimentations. The advancement in technology and science has joined the rat race in the quest for the Holy Grail to transport human into the higher levels of consciousness. Ancient instant teachings such as the Nirvana have described this state of awareness as the state of bliss. A level in which you can watch your body activities, the way you sit, the way you walk, how you make your hands, observe your thoughts attentively, hear all the words you use, be alive to all the emotions you express and notice all the reactions you make. This state of awareness comprises of being aware of the unconsciousness with its intuitive knowledge, tenets and the enormous sorrow it has accumulated.
Attaining this state of awareness attracts attention. The attention attracted comes only when this state has no choices, no experiences, and no personal experiences but only simply observing Efficient observation is realized when there is a great deal of space in the mind to concentrate and visualize without distractive thoughts. A mind that is arrested by greed, ambition, in the pursuit of pleasure, envy, self-fulfillment, anguished by sorrow and pain and extremely despaired is a mind that has no space to observe and hence it is devoid of attention, and it has no reached the pinnacle of conscious awareness. To observe and to attend efficiently, the mind has to be sharp, sane, logical, highly sensitive and without the slightest hint of neuroticism.
Meditation is a technique that sharpens the mind, trains the mind to think reasonably and logically; it improves the health of the mind by obstructing offending thoughts and makes the mind highly sensitive, thus it is a preferred avenue for attaining higher levels of consciousness and self-awareness. Meditation is engaged to allow the flurry of activities are constantly flowing in our minds to settle down with objective of making the mind more focused, tranquil and peaceful. Essentially, meditation triggers and rejuvenates our conscious awareness making someone keen and able to observe, to attend (Ivtzan, Gardner & Smailova, 2011).
A simple meditation practice would involve one concentrating keenly on an object such as a candle, flower, word or a sound over a length of time. Gradually, the random thoughts occurring in the mind diminish in number, in essence, you become less attached to your thoughts and sensations and progressively identify less with them.
From one individual to another, they have been reported to experience significantly varying experiences during meditation. The common byproducts of a process of meditation include increased awareness, relaxation, and a sense of peace, mental focus and clarity. Caution is however required for those engaging in meditation techniques to not have any wild expectation while practicing the trade. Such expectations in future results are likely to establish unnecessary strain when meditating.
Meditation essentially involves becoming aware and more sensitive to your inner self, facing undesirable parts and experiences of oneself may be a segment of the meditation process. The important thing about meditation is that one makes it a daily effort and uses a reasonable effort to remain with the object of attention when meditating. Therefore, experiencing bliss or peace is not an imperative expectation. Knowing that practice makes perfect, with regular practice, one eventually acquires an elevated understanding and proficiency with a certain technique of meditation. Meditation is used by different people of different cultures. Some practice it to have increased awareness of their thoughts and actions in the course of the day while for others meditation is primarily spiritual especially among the Indus and Buddhists.
Reaching higher levels of consciousness has religious and ethical ramifications. In Eastern religions, meditation is a pivotal practice for contacting God. A common saying in this region prayer is when you talk to God, but meditation is when you listen to God. Christian churches have a meditative ambiance and semblances of meditation are found in biblical statements such as the kingdom of heaven is within you. Meditation, therefore, has the implication of contacting someone within someone which is meaningful, peaceful and jubilating. It doesnt matter even if someone called this thing peace or God or the inner child or theater-wave activity,' the thing is there, and anyone can enjoy the benefits it offers regardless of what they believe. The ethical ramification of meditation can be observed in many traditions where the practice is a technique of reinforcing moral and ethical values (NAVEEN & TELLES, 2003).
Psychologists have purported that the higher levels of awareness are somewhere in between the sleeping, waking and dreaming states of an organism existence. In these state of awareness we now inherently who we are but we dont know where we are. This state grants an organism the deepest probable calmness, tranquility and rest that one can humanly experience or imagine. One can achieve this utopia state of bliss through meditation. When someone is meditating, their neurological system is insulated from any form of stress and concurrently accumulated stress in the system is released. It is widely encouraged that organism assimilates the practice of meditation into their daily routines for them to attain a higher state of consciousness and self-awareness to keep them alert and alive to their actions throughout the day. Meditation has justifiably purported to be the fountain of innermost love which flows freely among humans and offers the forces that bind humanity together. Greed, anger, sorrow, pain, anger and despair become momentary emotions that vanish as soon as they occur.
It is oblivious and foolhardy to believe that a higher level of consciousness even by the most efficient meditation techniques will be guaranteed by a mornings session. Reaching such a state is a...
