Admission essay 5

I am the co-owner and financial manager of our $38M diversified business group, with over 200 employees. The cotton factory in our group processes over 160 tons of cotton seed/day with an average return of 24.5% YOY. One of the co-owners, who is my peer, is involved in the planning and expansion of the group in the agro-based sector. I have been leading and foraying the group into new dimensions such as solar power. I am in charge of building a 10MW solar power plant with an $18M investment and expected to increase the group's revenues by 150%.

The pillars that comprise my vision of leadership are ownership, accountability and dependability, and in each endeavour, I undertake, I demonstrate an exceptional commitment to these principles. When a severe cyclone struck South India, fierce winds ripped the roof from my cotton factory and caved in the walls, immensely damaging the machinery, ruining raw materials and setting back production. More importantly to me, 200 employees and their families saw their homes destroyed. With no regard for cost, I stepped in and took care of the people who had given so much to my business. I constructed temporary shelters at the factory, provided food and money for basic needs, and funded tuition for children from my personal savings. The trust I earned in the process forged unbreakable bonds between myself and my employees, who have seen our company through thick and thin ever since. I stood tall for leadership, compassion and strategic insight. I have rebuilt and expanded on my damaged factory and forayed into new dimensions like solar energy. This story encapsulates the approach I take to business leadership: I recognize that leadership entails solemn responsibility, and I embrace the opportunity it presents to display character, values, and humanity and transform an adversity into an opportunity.

In addition, in another instance, I assisted my partner in formulating a detailed revised work plan. The valuable experience my peer attained in a similar facility assisted in learning the practical nuances. We did a root cause analysis in our nicotine factory and incorporated a new step of dissolving nicotine in water and kerosene to increase purity, which rectified the problem. My peer hired a chemical engineer and took action steps to incorporate the new step and address the plant's deficiencies. This resulted in a turnaround and enhanced our group's performance. It was challenging but very valuable feedback towards my partner's growth and development. At the follow-up, my partner expressed that my suggestions helped him see our partnership differently and contributed to the strengthening of his skills. Our camaraderie has been growing since this endeavour. The pillars that comprise my vision of leadership are responsibility, ownership, accountability, and dependability, and in each endeavour, I undertake, I demonstrate an exceptional commitment to these principles.
