Introduction
Based on my life experiences and interactions with people from different ethnic backgrounds and different ages, I believe am well suited for my career in family medicine. In this case, this has molded me for a career in family medicine. With my experience, I believe the field requires dedication promoted by genuine interest, communication abilities and a good relationship with the patients. On my enrollment in medical school, I wanted to improve the patients' quality of life which was motivated with my interaction with the underserved populations. In this case, in my pre-clerkship years in medical school were motivated by a wide range of medical specialties. The main areas of attraction were pharmacology and its application by anesthesiologists, microbiology as well as physiology and their application in explanation and management of patient conditions. I was also drawn to the severity and complexity of medical conditions and care offered by emergency medicine physicians. I believe that these areas are crucial in primary care services offered to patients. Therefore, I chose to major in family medicine to improve my contribution in patient treatment, career development, and attain personal and professional satisfaction.
The interest in family medicine arises from my dire interest in practicing preventive and therapeutic medicine. However, in my touring and interaction with different types of people influenced my decision to major in family medicine. This is attributed to the long-term working relationship established and the dissemination of care along the various stages of lifespan development from birth to death. On the other hand, during my observership program, I was enjoyed the relationship created by my attending and the patients. In this light, family medicine is a suitable field to realize a lasting relationship with the patients and meet my passion for preventive and therapeutic medicine.
The hands-on clinical skills and experience from the clerkship position boosted the passion for practice of family medicine. The skills and experience in performing invasive and non-invasive procedures in patient treatment and care has influenced my abilities and comfort in handling critically ill patients. The experience in mental unit with the diverse mental health conditions as well as the extensive history taking serves as a strong area in performing family health. On the other hand, most medical individual practitioners such as gynecologists and therapists and therefore, I believe with my vast experience in such areas, I can improve the general medical outcome and health status. In this light, the hands-on clinical skills serve as a foundation for my involvement in family medicine.
Conclusion
On a personal account, I bring determination, dedication, enthusiasm in learning and improving medical conditions as well as professionalism with me in the program. This involves the desire to impact on family support through application of clinical knowledge, skills and experiences. I would like to acquire extensive and comprehensive training through a balanced training framework. I expect to gain exclusive knowledge, clinical skills and judgment to facilitate effective family support and provision of medical care. I would also like to improve my skills in handling psychosocial issues in patients and the procedures of handling different conditions prevalent in the field. I believe the program will promote my skills, competence, efficiency and professionalism in addressing the needs in the field.
