Love Gone Wrong: Poor Liza and Nervous People, and Other Satires Essay

Poor Liza is a short narrative of a poor girl who is taken advantage of by a nobleman who later abandons her. The story is about a Girl named Liza and who lives with her weak, elderly mother in down in the village. Liza is an innocent girl who works hard to get money through doing some work around the home and gets a little to go to Moscow to sell lilies. It is through her journey that she meets a man who gets attracted to her. In the bus, the man buys a flower from her, and he became her regular customer. The man named Erast would buy all her flowers and even promised to be buying the flowers from her home so that Liza would not have to travel. The man from the noble class got approval from Liza's mother when he decided to be picking flowers from their home. It is also at this point that Liza got the greatest admiration towards the man. Although she is genuinely attracted to him, she also regrets being invited to a man from the noble class instead of a shepherd who is of his class "she says ...if only he who now occupies my thoughts had been born a simple peasant..." (Karmzin, p.109) As they both grow in love Liza's mother advises her to wed a different man contrary to her deep emotion to Erast. The man finally takes her virginity and every admiration she had towards her faded. His attraction faded, and he relocated to a different place in the name of work, but he eventually marries another woman from the middle class. It is an issue that led to Liza committing suicide she says "...he drove me out? He loves someone else? I am ruined'..." (Karamzin, p.116) .

On the other hand, the lady aristocrat is an also a short story where the narrator gives his view of not liking aristocratic ladies, and he describes how they dress and behave ironically he describes "...if a woman wears hat, her stockings are fuzzy, if she has a lap dog in her hands..." (Zoshchenko, p.127) The narrator who is a superintended attempt to romance a woman who lives in the apartment and they finally get along and go to a movie theater where the lady drains all his money. As the lady aristocrat is eating she exceeds the limit of the narrator's ability to pay and he shouts at her not to eat the fourth piece of cake. The lady is embarrassed only for the narrator to find little extra money to pay the bills. The lady is however upset to the point that she could not eat the cake anymore. The two stories are a typical representation of love gone wrong because they give an account of two people in each story who belong to the different social class and despite them having a strong attraction they cannot marry because of the social difference that exists in them. In Poor Liza, the girl falls in love with a nobleman who eventually leaves her to marry a middle-aged woman. It is because of her social class that their passion cannot yield to marriage and their love goes wrong for this reason. Similarly, the stories give accounts of love gone wrong because it explores the lives of two people whose passion is not mutual one is genuine, and another is fake. In poor Liza, the girl develops a real love for the noble Man, but on the contrary, the man is after the girls innocents a thing that came to pass after the first sexual encounter they had. In the lady aristocrat story, the man is attracted to the lady from the noble family, but his love is genuine because of his description of how he dislikes such ladies. It is depicted when he shouts at her when she eats the fourth piece of cake. Perhaps he wanted to be identified with her, but he does not love her. The bond is however spoiled by the embarrassment from the man who angers the lady, and again love goes wrong.

Similarly, loves goes wrong when the superintendent is not able to cater for all the needs of the noble lady despite all the efforts he had put in to convince her to the theatre and hang out together firstly they are not able to sit together. It is one indication that things went wrong and not as expected and this is an indication of love going wrong. On the other hand midway, the new relationship between East and Liza, Liza's mother advised her to marry another man and this is an indication of love going wrong and not as expected by Liza. Additionally, when East sleeps with Liza and takes her innocence his interest and strong attraction towards her fade off implying that something had gone wrong and this is love all gone wrong between two people had strong emotional feelings for each other one party suddenly loses interest. On the other hand, the superintendent loses interest in the lady after she took her through a financial loss when she ate more than what his pocket could accommodate this too is an indication of love gone wrong. Also, appreciation goes wrong when Liza meets East with another woman whom he married without her knowledge. It is a situation that leads to her committing suicide and leaving a note for her mother. In the same capacity, her mother dies because of the intense love she had for her daughter it is all love gone wrong.

It is important to note that the two stories give accounts of the situations that surround love that goes wrong in all aspects one mistake leads a mess the cannot be corrected. It is atypical representation n of what happens in societies where there is no real love, but opportunists take the stage and become heroes. Erast satisfies his desires when he makes the innocence of the poor young girl who genuinely fell in love. Liza ends committing suicide because of the trust and respect she had for him but which eventually went wrong because East married another woman. On the other hand, the superintendent's love for the lady from the noble class goes wrong when he cannot contain himself over the spending of the girl. It is a case that ruins everything as the girl is embarrassed can no longer enjoy the meal. It marks the end of their union, and again it is love gone wrong. Both texts show how love went worn but under different circumstances involving different characters. It mirrors the reality of life where love smoothly goes wrong and a there is a hero and Villain. One is left hurt as another enjoys love with another person.
