The brief story "A Worn Way" by Eudora Welty is a descriptive narrative about a troublesome trip endured by an elderly lady in search of medical care for a grandson she cherishes. The story draws out the devotion to her grandson and needing to supply him with a distant, better and esteemed way of life, as the inspiration to overcome life's obstacles. On the primary theme of the story surrounds the trip, Phoenix Jackson, the grandmother, battles against ancient age, nature, and reality. Initially, Welty's protagonist, Phoenix Jackson, is presented as the mythological representation of poverty and suffering. Phoenix is determined and coordinate in her objective to induce the medicine for her adored grandson needs. Even though she is ancient and strolls with a cane, there are no deterrents in the long way that will halt her. She keeps up her wonderful deportment in spite of the prejudice and need of sympathy she experiences. She holds onto trust that her sick grandson, her as it was living family, will survive. She is decided to go down that way in spite of anything that might come between her and getting the medication for her grandson (Welty, 1941). This appears that her body may be worn out, but the demeanour that she takes and wants that she has in arrange to induce the medication for her grandson is not. Phoenix moreover knows that she contains a long trip, but none of these creatures or anything else stages her since she may be a courageous and strong-willed individual, and she will do whatever it takes to care for her grandson (Piwinski, 2003).

Another prime character is the attendant who is Phoenix accepts the white specialist, the attendant, at the doctor's office as a charity persuasion. The attendant at to begin with appears to be a much more dangerous and terrible character than the white seeker since she doesn't honestly do much to assist Phoenix indeed even though her position inside the wellbeing care framework is gathered to be almost nothing but giving offer assistance (Welty, 1941). The attendant is much more unequivocally racist than the seeker and after that compounds that hostile quality by moreover having a characteristic partiality against the elderly. Her as it were an act of kindness toward the ancient woman is the offer of a couple of pennies since it is Christmas, after all. However, it is questionable whether the offer the attendant presents is honest to goodness thoughtfulness or fair a reaffirmation that the specialist sees the world through financial blinders of suspicion (Dilgen, 2014).

The hunter is another character who is a presumptuous man who interacts with the protagonists by telling Phoenix what to do and where to go. He has no kindness or regard for her. The hunter could be a man who acts like he possesses the put and everybody in it. Even though he makes a difference Phoenix out of a discard, he doesn't offer any other offer assistance and lies approximately not having any cash to deliver her. He makes fun of dark elderly individuals, uncovering his prejudice and disdain. He chuckles as he focuses a weapon at Phoenix for no reason, without fear of repercussions. He expects she will meet up with his damaging treatment. The nurture is recognizable with Phoenix and her grandson's case. She is proficient missing in sympathy (Welty, 1941). The upbringing fulfils her work by inquiring almost the grandson's condition and by giving Phoenix the medication for which she has come such a distant remove. But the nurture does not offer any extra care or concern for Phoenix herself confronting such a difficult travel domestic. She moreover shows callousness when she reports the case to be "charity" and the boy's harm to be "adamant."

Phoenix Jackson's grandson does not really make an appearance within the account movement of her travel, but his presence waits over the whole length and breadth of her odyssey like Vito Corleone's position as a major character within The Adoptive parent in spite of sharing the kind of screen time as a rule related with minor supporting characters (Piwinski, 2003). The grandson's status as a major topical player in "A Worn Path" is affability of his therapeutic condition coming about from drinking lye and the reality that his guardians appear to be lost from the picture.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the characterization of the protagonist and the antagonists in the short story "A Worn Path" by Welty Eudora, presents stock characters. Character development in the short story goes a long way to present the themes of the plot development showing racism, poverty, family unit, abiding love, sacrifice, love courage, the strength of human dignity, and strong self-will.
