Introduction
Did you know that the use of marijuana increases the risk of car crashes and is the cause of many road accidents? Many drivers lose their lives when under the influence of cannabis (Purnell & Howell, 2018). Marijuana is a drug like any other and causes harm to our bodies more than benefits. I will be talking about the effects of marijuana on our bodies and how it will affect our lives if one gets addicted. Al states should not legalize marijuana.
Mind Altering Compounds
First, smoking marijuana can damage your brain and other parts of your body. The drug has mind-altering compounds that affect both your body and brain. When you become addicted to the drug, it becomes hard for you to focus, learn, or remember things (Ketcherside et al., 2016). Besides that, using marijuana will inflame your lungs or even cause breathing problems. Research also indicates that smoking marijuana affects both males and females (Dunne, 2019). It affects ovulation, fertilization, and sperm motility. We need to avoid marijuana for the purpose of good health.
Harmful Effects
Second, legalizing marijuana will lead to increased use by teenagers, which will result in harmful effects. Teenagers' minds are not fully developed; hence their brains will be easily damaged (Buddy, 2020). It becomes difficult for them to learn and retain information. Smoking marijuana will impair their decision making resulting in lower quality of life. Addiction and mental illness are also likely to affect teenagers smoking the drug. Increased crime rate and risky sexual behavior may as well be a typical results of our teenagers smoking cannabis.
If marijuana is legalized, most businesses might go down, and productivity will be lost in the work stations (Albino, 2017). Most people depend on their companies or their places of work to earn a source of living. When you start getting addicted to bhang, you will notice increased absenteeism at work, being caught up by deadlines, and causing accidents or getting injured. Finally, you will end up being fired since you are no longer productive. If you are self-employed, your business might fail, and you will no longer be able to provide for your family.
Conclusion
In conclusion, I have shared with you the reasons why marijuana should not be legalized. As a result, I am confident that no one wants to end their lives or live an unhealthy life because of cannabis. Besides that, I am certain that no parent wants their children to have a miserable life or spend dollars trying to rehabilitate their children due to addiction. Let us all abstain from drugs and more so marijuana before it is too late.
