Introduction
The interview was carried out to Mr. Smith Davis. Mr. Smith is an employee and one of the management team in the department of agriculture in the country, on poverty reduction. Poverty refers to a condition of not being able to access basic needs such as food, water, and shelter. The level of poverty varies from place to place(Gentilini and Sumner). Choosing this respondent was made through a stratified technique since he is very passionate about reducing poverty in the country. Besides, this employee was also fit as a respondent, since he had an experience of more than ten years in poverty eradication. A brief introduction was done on Smith before interviewing him, to inform him that the purpose of the investigation was not victimization. It also ensured that this respondent gave the responses willingly. The discussion has looked at the information obtained from the interview, which involved what causes poverty in the country, the means of poverty eradication, and the benefits of reducing poverty.
Various interview questions addressed the causes of poverty in the country. Some of the causes of poverty in the country are obtained from Mr. Smith's lack of education. Most of the people living in poverty lack affordable quality education. Despite the cost of enrolling and learning in public schools being cut, there are still people who can't afford it. Besides, Smith said that there is an increasing cost of living. The cost of living continues to rise this increase in the cost of essential goods that every citizen needs daily, thus making some of the people to lack access to such needs. The high cost of medical care is another cause leading to poverty, people living in the country are affected by high cost while seeking medical care this is due to the hefty bills that people have to pay this has contributed to many people becoming poor and even becoming stuck in poverty
As a researcher, I also wanted to know the means used in the country to eradicate poverty. Mr. Smith said the main methods applied are creating employment opportunities, rising of the minimum wage to $10 per hour, and increasing the earned income tax for the childless workers. However, Smith also added that the country has been encouraging investments by giving knowledge and skills on entrepreneurship. The process is very effective in poverty eradication since most people create employment for them and others.
Mr. Smith also responded to the questions related to the importance of poverty eradication. The first benefits are reducing risks on children, improving the general growth of the economy as well as lowering of illegal behaviors like theft. Smith added that poverty reduction in the country reduces the rate of dependency. Various programs engage people in income-generating activities, thus reducing the dependency rate.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the interview carried out on Mr. Smith drew a very clear picture of the current state of poverty in the country. The summary has been made on the bases of the categories or groups created from the questions. It was identified that, despite the rate of poverty hindering economic growth, a lot of efforts are still put in place to give a better future. With poverty reduction, it was identified that even the economic development of the overall country could occur. Therefore, the development and growth of the economy should start with poverty reduction.
