Internship at Erk Tech: Gaining Insight Into IT Market - Research Paper

Introduction

My five-week internship was a fruitful one as I was able to interact with the actual market. Being hands-on all activities made it possible for me to gain more knowledge and skills that helped me utilize the skills I acquired while in school. My instructor was able to assist me in activities that were problematic and sent me to do other errands alone which helped me gain confidence in myself.

Erk Technology is an IT company that deals with selling and maintaining materials, ranging from computers to computer accessories located at Longwood in the USA. It is a single-owned company by Mr. Erk. It has many computers, wireless cameras, printers, software for sale. Mr. Erk operates alone and my presence there made us two workers. With skills in IT my skills helped in providing services that I could do alone without the supervision of my Instructor. I was mostly in the field providing maintenance and installation activities. Throughout my internship, I was able to work a total of 112 hours in five weeks.

Learning Objectives

During my internship, several objectives were set to ensure that each person was able to benefit. I was to acquire several skills such as first-hand customer service, ability to create a network, installation of software and computing devices. Through the weeks, I was to move across all departments from customer service to service delivery. My school wanted me to put to use the skills I had learned in school to ensure that I was able to incorporate the outside world experience and my classroom-taught schools.

Being an intern made me work different errands at once to ensure that I was able to get well in all aspects of the work. I was to write a weekly report which ensured that I was able to keep track of my activities which could be assessed by my instructor. I was to accompany my boss in some errands while I was to handle other errands on my own. This was mainly to help me gain my confidence and ensure that I was able to handle issues on my own. Accompanying my boss gave me the platform to ask questions and ensure that I was able to get things right and ask questions where I had trouble understanding.

In my first week I was able to put to action the skills I learned in school. I was also able to learn new skills such as web hosting which I was taught by my instructor. I was able to do installations which helped me interact with the clients and solve their problems. This helped me acquire skills of how to handle customer issues.

When we went on errands with my boss, he gave me a chance to do the activities. After installation, he gave me a chance to do the connecting which helped me prove my skills to my boss under his supervision. During this experience, I was able to as my boss a few questions which pleased him and answered each one of them to ensure I lacked nothing.

During the installation of computers, I was able to work with a large number of computers at once, this encounter made me gain the experience of how to handle large tasks under pressure. Working in different places gave me a chance to solve various activities in different places. The change of surroundings helped kill the monotony of working in one place which made the work more interesting.

On the other hand, my boss was understanding and directed me in accomplishing several factors. He gave me a chance to exploit my skills and ensure that he gave me a chance to do various activities which helped build my confidence. He taught me a few sills such as web hosting which helped in raising my level of skill. He sent me on some errands all by myself so that I could be able to understand the challenges faced by clients and ensured that I offered a reliable solution.

My experience at the Oviedo mall equipped me with the skill on how to manage networks. Granting and denying access to computer users help me understand how networks operate and how to ensure resources in an organization are utilized by the right people. This also taught me how to secure files and documents for my clients. Securing files helps to prevent cyber-crime.

Consequentially, in the first week I was able to learn about web hosting, updated windows for a client and installed wireless CCTV cameras. The second week I fixed a printer retrieved information and fixed a CCTV camera. In the third week, I installed and connected five IP cameras, connected the internet for a client, replaced the sinology drive for another client, installed a wireless printer for a client. In the fourth week we were able to fix CCTV cameras by installing RG59 cables and connected an Ethernet connection for the community room in Oviedo mall. On the final week, I was able to update drivers for a client who got the "USB not recognized" message each time she inserted her flash disk, updated windows from Windows 7 to Windows 10 and finally restricted access to some of the clients from accessing various files at Oviedo Mall.

The internship was fruitful as I was able to acquire new skills and put the skills I had to effect. I was able to better my skills and improve my communication skills. I was able to interact with different clients and understood different measures on how to handle different clients. Working here helped me learn under pressure and ensured that I offered the best services. The fact that we were only the two of us gave me the chance to handle more issues as most of the issues were delegated to me.

I would highly recommend this center to anyone who would like to engage in self-employment. Here you can interact with clients and learn how to handle their issues. Creating your employment implies that you maximize on profits. Good instructions and mentorship are the factors that made my stay there enjoyable.
