Introduction
Notable, in most societies, there is a common issue of drugs. Most drugs have several effects on individuals key among them that they alter one's thinking leading to them experiencing the poor judgment of issues, and they have a probability of high health risks. The society, therefore, has been affected so much, and there is a need to address the issues so that problems do not arise.
There are different types of drugs like stimulants, inhalants, dissociates, depressants, opioids, and hallucinogens with each having different effects (National Institute on Drug Abuse, 2019). Most countries have come up with rules that control the use of these drugs, and in most cases, they are restricted to use by those above the age of 18 years. Some countries have even banned some of these drugs. A good example is cocaine, which is not allowed in most countries. It has adverse effects, and it can even lead to death in most cases, which are not soo good in society.
Besides, they have a lot of impact on society. For instance, it leads to low chances of one being able to get a job as some convicted of any drug-related offense will have a criminal record leading to employers lacking confidence with such a person (Young, 1999). Travelling will also be a problem as they will have a problem with getting a visa for an overseas trip. It leads to increased crime rate as users need money to buy the drugs and in the case where they do not have, they start stealing from others. Due to poor judgment among users, sometimes they have problems dealing with their families because they are mostly faced with emotional problems, thus affecting their love life and relationships with their family and friends. Users tend neglecting their families in the event that they are married and forsaking their children leading to problems in their growth and development. Therefore, drugs are a problem in society and should be discouraged.
In addition, they have various economic effects, and mainly, they are negative. For example, as drug users battle themselves out of addiction, they are mostly faced with huge hospital bills, which deprive all their savings. Using drugs is also very expensive as most drugs are very expensive and they can lead to one losing a lot of money and thus becoming poor in the process. Drug addicts are not able to work as most of the time, they are high, thus leading to low productivity. It is hard to employ a drug addict as in most cases, and they may not even show up for work.
Moreover, research has confirmed that drugs affect the brain to a large extent. It has led to a high dropout rate within schools as drug users most get out of school as they are not able to cope with educational standards in schools (National Institute on Drug Abuse, 2019). They need time to take their drugs whereas they are in school and also their concentration is affected, leading to low grades. Research has found that people who use drugs have a problem with dealing with their class work and often get low grades as a result. Therefore drugs should be discouraged from those who are in school at all cost.
Finally, it is clear that drugs are not good in any given society, and all measures should be undertaken so as to that people do not develop into drug addiction. My stand on drug addicts is still the same as I feel drug addicts while it is hard to get out of the addiction. This is because few people get to understand and take care of them; hence, drugs should be highly discouraged at all cost.
