Sampling is the process that involves the selection of numbers of the right type of an element from a certain population to aid in a given study. Population, however, is the complete set of elements (individual scores) that the investigator is interested in studying. An element relates to a single member of the population (Kemps et al., 2019). A sample relates to the portion or subset of the population, the size determined by the study type and objective as well as the financial and the time constraints. The study population will include both males and female diabetes patients. The research shall focus on data about adults diagnosed with prediabetes, type 1, and 2 diabetes (Kemps et al., 2019). Both probability ad non-probability sampling techniques will be used characterized by purposive sampling and simple random sampling. The sample size shows the number of the sample frame adopted for the calculation of estimates within the study population. Data will be collected through various methods such as questionnaires administered by the researcher, focused group discussions, and key informant interview guides.

The researcher administered questionnaires will be used for the patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (Kemps et al., 2019). The data that will be collected about the patients include the respondents' demographic characteristics, compliance levels, level of knowledge on nutrition, and the various factors that are likely to influence the dietary recommendations for diabetic patients. The weak type 2 diabetes patients, such as pregnant women, will be excluded from the study.

Moreover, data relating to the patients’ compliance and knowledge about nutrition would be collected through a series of questions in which various sampled patients will report on their practices (Kemps et al., 2019). There would also be a key informant interview conducted on healthcare providers, especially those linked with providing healthcare services to diabetes patients. The data collected will be both qualitative and quantitative (Kemps et al., 2019). The participants would be invited without anyone being forced. The quantitative data collected through the researcher administered questionnaires would be cleaned, coded, and analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS).
