Introduction
One of the topics discussed in the blog is working from home due to COVID-19. Initially, this was meant to be a temporary arrangement, but some organizations are considering telling their employees to continue working from home throughout the summer, a year, or even forever (Sharlyn, 2020). Therefore, this means that the employees have to start thinking about having a home office or upgrading the existing one to ensure that the environment they work from supports maximum productivity. The blog addresses the important items that an office should have, whether in the workplace or home, including a comfortable chair, computer monitors, adequate desk, ample storage, and adequate lighting. Some of the employers may help with some items such as computer monitors (Lauby, 2020). From this blog, I have learned that if working from home is extended or is made permanent, it will no longer be a sacrifice, but all employees will be required to have a fully equipped home office. A good home office setup will help the employees remain productive more that they would or be in the workplace.
Human Resource Management
The article on the five things to consider when working from home has issues that are related to the Society for Human Resource Management competencies for human resource practitioners. The issues include time management, where the employee has the freedom to manage and control how they use their time while working from home as opposed to an environment where the employee is managed at the workplace (Lauby, 2020). Time management relates to human capital management, where the human resource is concerned about how employees spend their time working to achieve the goal of the organization they work for. Time management must be considered to make the employees spend most of their time being productive by doing the work they are assigned to do. The effectiveness of time management influences the chances for the success of the organization.
The topic of self-care, which includes having a good chair, proper lighting, and ample deck space, relates to human management, where self-care influences the productivity of the employees. The information on self-care falls within Society for Human Resource Management for human resource practitioners because human resource management has to ensure that employees are comfortable in the environment that they work in for them to be effective in their work (Lauby, 2020). Working from home should provide an effective environment for the employee to work as if they are at the work station. Working from home because of the Covid-19 pandemic has been caught unprepared hence many have been caught without a proper working environment. Working from home is different from working at the office workstation, where the organization provides the necessary conducive environment for the employees to work.
Conclusion
One of the important traits of a good human capital practitioner is excellent communication (Pattanayak, 2020). Even when the employees are working from home as human capital practitioners, you will need to communicate with the employees daily when allocating the tasks. Also, as the employees adapt to working from home, they may be facing challenges, and as a practitioner, I will have to listen to them and find solutions to the problems they face. Whether working from the organization's office or home, employees should be sure that the human capital practitioner can listen to them and ensure that their issues are addressed effectively to carry out their tasks.
