To the parents, it is disappointing, and the reaction can be seen right on their face upon hearing their youth is pregnant. The journey of getting through pregnancy is a tough one. Anger and resentment are among the first feelings one gets upon confirmation that indeed they are pregnant. As time elapses, confusion sets in on whether to continue with the pregnancy or terminate the baby. Considering the weight of keeping the baby, starting a new life as a mother at a tender age depresses. Considering the repercussions of terminating for those informed intensifies the dilemma. I was once a victim of teenage pregnancy. I grew up in a low-income family. All my life, I did not have a chance to mingle with my biological father. My stepdad took the place of my dad, but we did not have close dad to daughter relation. My mother was drug-addicted, so all the time, she was high. With all this revolving my life, I found myself on the wrong track, hanging out with the wrong people. I was 17 when I got pregnant. The day I was confirmed pregnant, marked a total turn of my life. I lost all the individuals close to me. I used to call my friends. My father threatened to abandon our family. I learned to be responsible for my own life. I kept the pregnancy and finished school after delivery. I moved out of the area focused on my life, and now am a nurse. My daughter Lyric is 23 now a nurse too. She defined my life and made me who I am today.

Various factors are known to contribute to teenage pregnancy. Cultural, socioeconomic, and psychological factors can contribute to teenage pregnancy in one way or another. Lack of parental guidance on sexual matters is the leading factor. Some parents consider it gross discussing with their children. Some teenagers do not have parents or are abandoned as parents get bust searching for resources for upkeep. Socio-economically, teenagers who come from families with low socioeconomic class are more likely to be sexually exploited hence get pregnant at a young age. Socially, peer pressure can lead to one participating in sexual behaviors leading to pregnancy. Stress-related to social matters such as family conflict also have a part to play.

Despite the devastations that come with teenage pregnancy and early childbearing, the journey can be worthwhile when one endures. Teenage pregnancy can teach one a life lesson(s). Those who come put successful life to testify that the journey can be endured and yield positive results later in life even with abandonment, there is a need for every support for these young individuals who get surprised of being pregnant at a tender age, many of which are against their wish due to the surrounding circumstances.

Conclusion

Despite the cause or contributing factors, the burden of teenage pregnancy and weight of childbearing at the tender age are undeniable. Usually many get themselves in a dilemma sate not knowing the next action to take. Social-economic and cultural factors contribute to teenage pregnancy. How one comes out of this challenge and applies the lessons learned determines their lives after pregnancy. One can come out triumphantly and lead a successful life despite all the challenges they face during teenage pregnancy.
