Introduction
Technology has advanced over the years, and it continues to develop even better. It has rapidly turned out to be fundamental in everyone's daily errands across the globe. Technology has become universal since it has also gained popularity in most developing countries. Therefore, there is no way that one could avoid technology. It is crucial that people use it wisely so that it may not end up destroying life when it is supposed to build it. Even though technology has its positive effects, the adverse impacts overshadow them significantly.
The impact of technology on personal, family, societal, and business-related relationships have affected the culture of these relations significantly. When these changes occur, people hardly notice until the situation has gone out of hand. Over the past few years, technology has slowly grown to take the central role of most relationships resulting in a few insecurities. Through people's relationship and interaction with technology, they have witnessed businesses, family affairs, love affairs and ethics blossom; however, in some cases, individuals have experienced adverse effects of technology.
Impacts of Technology on Personal Relationships
A person may look at someone staring at their devices and have the thought that these people are antisocial; however, that is not true. They are social; it is just that they socialize differently (Bergdall, Kraft, Carter, Hatfield-Timajchy & Hock-Long, 2012). The fact that technology is altering how people used to communicate is not an adverse trend; in any case, change is inevitable. The advantage of technology on relationships is that it provides interaction even when people are far away from each other. Increased human activities mean that people have no time to meet and interact physically. However, technology facilitates interactions despite long distances.
Despite the distance, the time, weather or obstacles, communication can still be possible. Initially, one would get worried when they shift from their hometown, transfer to another school, or get a new job since such changes would ultimately cut the communication links (Bergdall et al., 2012). Luckily, technology has enabled this constant communication. It is ultimately true that those who often use technology are the typical users of public spaces like the Cafes. As well, technology helps create more close ties. Constant communication is the key to secure bonds. In some way or the other, technology strengthens relationships.
Technology has brought about much scientific advancement that assists everyone in his or her personal life and relations. However, this innovation comes with a price too (Bergdall et al., 2012). In most cases, individuals spend much time on their phones, laptops, tablets, and many other related devices. This trend completely cuts them off from the outside world. To these people, it seems like the world outside their gadgets has come to a halt. At this point, they get addicted to technological devices leading them to forget to socialize with their close persons.
Addiction is adverse since it makes an individual to stick to the gadget at the expense of other activities. In a case where there is no power, or there is a poor internet connection, such a person does not feel comfortable. These people cannot adjust to any environment where there is no power and internet connection. This addiction causes a lot of challenges (Lenhart, Smith & Anderson, 2015). In case the devices fail, the user is likely to plunge into stress that might escalate into depression. It may also cause severe mental damage to the user. It may reach a point that they will have to seek medical attention to overcome the challenge. In light of that, it is imperative to ensure that technology is used wisely and when necessarily needed.
Impact of Technology on Family Relations
With technology, it is easier to plan for a family day out, have fun with your family on weekends, and go for a movie, among other errands (Park, Fritz & Jex, 2011). Having these kinds of moments makes the relationship between family members stronger. Most times, children go to work far away from their parents. Others go to school miles away from home. Fortunately, technology bridges the gap since parents and children can keep constant interaction through technological devices and apps of communication.
When probably the child is away and either his or her parent falls ill, they can quickly book a flight back home, take a train, or call an Uber to efficiently travel home to offer the necessary support to the parent. These actions make the bond between them more rigid because it exhibits traces of love among family members (Park et al., 2011). Technology has also made it easier for parents to mend broken relationships with their children. Several online apps offer inspirational quotes and advice on parent-child relationship, which are used to foster a cordial relationship between children and parents. Recipes on how to cook are innumerable on websites. People can use them to make delicacies for their loved ones since a good meal brings people closer. Families have also been able to put up home security systems that help them live in peace. A peaceful family is unquestionably a loving family.
On the other hand, technology has also been the cause of many broken family relationships. For instance, everyone tends to take much of his or her time on the screen. They hardly get time to interact (Park et al., 2011). No quality time is spent with family members. Some parents will put aside an hour or two for them to play and have time with their children, but in the process, they receive an email or a phone call that stops everything since they are summoned at their workplace. Parents should understand that they should not at any point bring work home. Family time should be sanctified if they want to maintain their relationships.
Lack of proper physical or offline communication affects children significantly to the point that they may end up doing things that they will regret. Unfortunately, this communication is what technology keeps on depriving most children and parents (Bergdall et al., 2012). When parents see that their children are spending more than enough time with their gadgets, they mostly advise them to switch them off and engage in activities like playing with their friends. Although it is always a struggle to make them go out and leave their phones, this move ultimately destroys the family relationship since most children interpret the coercion by parents as an ill motive that denies them freedom of association.
Impact of Technology on Societal Relations
Technology has a significant effect when it comes to the comprehension of our diversities. Back then, it was hard for people to understand the preferences or dislikes of their companions without asking them to clarify (Parigi, 2014). However, technology has made this exercise more comfortable. On a daily basis, people post events that they partake, and the meals that they consume. In the process, their friends can understand their culture. With technology, individuals can maintain relationships in the best way ever. It gives people the chance to be aware of the cultural diversity of the societal loop.
Technology creates many communities, which emerge through online social platforms. Initially, communities were only made up of family members and relatives (Parigi, 2014). Today, many communities have come up as a result of technology. These communities are virtual ones since people of common interests come together and form a group, for instance, the Whatsapp group, where they can share their ideas, challenges and experiences.
Technology has brought both positive and negative effects on societal relationships. The adverse impact of technology on social relations is isolation (Parigi, 2014). Most technology users end up acknowledging their technology life at the expense of their real life. People are heavily addicted to phones and computers that they hardly spend an hour without scrolling through their apps searching for updates and any other trending topic. In consequence, technology has replaced physical relationships. This vice has adversely impacted on the lifestyle of people leading to physical loneliness across users of tech-devices.
Technically, isolation draws a wedge between people since it does not offer room for someone to express to their close persons about their feelings (Parigi, 2014). Instead, they confide with their social media friends or look for advice over the internet. To some extent, this move may seem reasonable. However, having a real talk with a friend, a relative, or a psychiatrist is a much better healing process. Additionally, writing words that express laughter or making an emoji with a laughing face cannot be compared to the joy that comes with hearing the laughter physically.
Impact of Technology on Business Relations
Technology does affect not only personal relationships but also commercial enterprises. It also creates a significant impression in the economics department. For instance, it has brought the market closer to the manufacturers (Pagani & Pardo, 2017). Through technology, retailers can access clients notwithstanding the distance between them. Technology such as the internet has opened a broader market for selling items. Customers are also able to order and receive their wants whenever and wherever they are. As well, customers can give their feedback about the products they have collected and used (Eid, 2012).
Feedbacks help manufacturers to improve the quality of their products. They also accord a chance for manufacturers to design products based on the clients' preferences. With this type of communication, the economy is bound to blossom (Marler, Fisher & Ke, 2009). Economics is the core of each state. Significant economic development attracts many investments from all over the globe. Massive and successful investments create numerous excellent and long-lasting relationships between countries. Technology has, therefore, led to improved diplomatic relations.
Technology has led to the invention of machines, which are becoming accessible to employers. These machines are easy to operate, and their output is unquestionably massive. Besides, machines are efficient due to their ability to capture minor details of their specific tasks (Marler et al., 2009). From the view of employers, machines are significant assets. However, employees have been affected by the invention of machines since machines have taken over many jobs that employees used to carry out. As a result, the rate of unemployment has increased significantly.
Feedbacks could negatively affect businesses, especially where a client who is unsatisfied by the service or product ends up giving bad reviews about the company (Pagani & Pardo, 2017). Many people who would want to inquire about the product might come across such feedbacks in one way or the other. If they do, such information may cast doubts about the product despite the additional good reputation that has been heard. Most people tend to focus on the wrong side because they would not want to undergo any loss. In the process, the company loses clients (Mohr, Sengupta, & Slater, 2009).
Impact of Technology on Ethics of Relationships
The development of technology has advanced the most critical aspect of a relationship, which is communication. Communication is the only way towards achieving a successful relationship (Park et al., 2011). Today, many people seem to give technology the task to shape or form their relationships. Unfortunately, it has blinded the world with its positive and negative effects on relationships. That is why there are some ethical standards t...
