Introduction
Australia is one of those modern societies which have unique approach to the protections of human rights. This is because there is creation of human rights treaties which are established worldwide as just and society with strong legal systems which governs labour rights. By nature, Australian businesses are expected to operate as an example through effective leadership and required values. Some of the values include embracing diversity, equal opportunity to all, non-discrimination, safety programs as well as fair wages to the workers.
Climate change that causes drought in Australia is as a result of social issues and government policies. Regional young Australians between the ages of 18-35 are affected by social problems such as unemployment, domestic violence, lack of affordable housing, lack of family support, and mental health issues. From the analytical perspective and the root cause of social change, mapping has been found a foundational element that sets the setback for the discovery and identification of the problems. Mapping helps identify the root causes of the complex social issues affecting individuals and also focus on the measurement of these problems.
The aspect of business doing the right thing worldwide and mostly in sector of safety of workers was developed after case of Bangladesh factory. This factory collapsed in month of April in the year 2013 where more than 100 garments workers were killed. There was also considerable number of casualties where these effects made issue of human rights in the global supply chains tangible for both Australian consumers and their businesses. In addition to that there was thrusting of business practices, safety of workers as well as labour rights in most of factories and industries across the world. The collapse of Bangladesh galvanised the desires of many enterprises to do that extra good thing apart from the normal direct operations. It also led to the scrutiny of the supply chain arrangements in local levels as well as international level. It also leads to deep elaboration of what is meant by human rights and how it can be affected or addressed in the businesses.
The Australian business community which is the key manufacturers and purchasers of labour, products and materials finds it difficult to hide the aspect of abuse of human rights. This is the reason why there is scrutiny of human rights in supply chains in relation to the abuses such as slavery, child labour, trafficking, poor wages as well as unacceptable working conditions.
System Mapping
The system map will show the complex systems of the root cause of climate change. The major systems affected by climate change are such as biosphere, lithosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere and cryosphere. Lithosphere refers to the upper layer of the solid earth, consisting of both the earth and ocean that has all the crustal rocks and makes the elastic part of the uppermost mantle. Hydrosphere is the climate systems that comprises of the liquid surface. The part of the earth that consists of all ecosystems and living organisms is known as biosphere. Cryosphere is the region beneath the earth's surface and the ocean where water is in solid form. The gaseous envelope surrounding the earth is known as the atmosphere. Climate change affects all these areas that are linked as a system to one another.
The higher temperatures created by the global warming triggers many types of disasters which include heat waves, the storms, droughts and floods. The warmer climate resulting from global warming creates the atmosphere which can collect, retain and drop more waters which contribute to changing of weather patterns whereby wet areas continues to become wet and drier areas continues to be dry. The extreme weather events which results from global warming leads to the climate disaster events. These climate disaster events include floods, severe storms and drought. As I is commonly known this disasters have adverse effects. For example, a disaster like flood can cause massive destruction of property due to heavy rains along the wet areas. The overflowing of water bodies comes with public health implications due to the water spread of water-borne diseases. In addition to that, the wetter warmer climate established by global warming inhabits the disease-carrying insects such as ticks mosquitoes and fleas which are parasites due to their dependency on living organisms. This frequency occurring of severe weather has the economic disadvantage aspect of it. This is because, the disasters which arises due to increase of earth's atmosphere temperature caused by global warming leads to utilizing a lot of money in handling those situation.
Actor's Mapping
Government agencies who are the main practitioners in the fight against climate change have a big role to play. Those funds budgeted to deal with disasters can be channelled to other sectors in economy in order to improve it. Agencies are working on climate change to reduce emissions, adapt to the changing climate and also meet the international standards.
Actors focus on the measurement of mitigating solutions to climate change and solving social issues differ in objectives. Their goals to assist in coming up with solutions to curb drought fail because they sometimes lack transparency when enacting policies of farmland use and drought prevention. Consequently, there is no communication between people suffering and the key stakeholders that should be held accountable for the problems. The inefficient communication feedback loop results to the complexity of the social issues hence lack transparency and trust. However, all this fails as a result of flawed government interventions in the system.
The non-state actors which are non-governmental bodies are also playing their part to get the Australia's climate change policy right on the upfront cost to consumers who ignored costs and were not acting. Creation and implementation of the environmental policies are to ensure cutting of carbon. The scientists and other business and industries have also participated in the protection of the systems.
Actor-Tactical Map
Land in Australia is primarily used for grazing and other agribusiness activities. For example, sheets of rainfall in Australia show that a large proportion of land has been drier for an extended period. Lack of rain causes drought setting a foundation for root causes that affect people within that particular area. For instance, high rates of homelessness start showing up for the fact that people start migrating to search for places where they will make their ends meet. They are affected by lack of affordable housing, job insecurity and domestic violence which disintegrate them, and mostly the threat falls on the young individuals.
Most of the green gases are emitted by the manufacturing industries and at the point of emissions, they are not tapped which means they are released into the atmosphere. This act increases levels of greenhouses gases which accelerate global warming. Through tapping those gases at the point of emission, less or no emission is emitted to the atmosphere which means global warming effect will be greatly reduced.
System-Collaboration Map
The relationships cause problems in society created either by mutually or through the actors and stakeholders that are involved in problems intervention. Individuals between the age's 18-35 experience livestock farming problems for the fact that, while the demand for livestock products is rising, risks to climate changes arise as a result of the drought (McMichael, 2009, p.3). The intersection of the problems is illuminated from the tactical map which denounces that two players can contribute to a problem through the violations of the central usage element. For example, increased temperatures have an impact on farmers where they lack sufficient grass for the livestock and also cases of bushfire. It is, therefore, essential to employ collaborative measures to solve the problem at hand at the same time understand the stakeholders that should be involved in selecting solutions for the social problem.
The remedies to global warming will focus on dealing with those human activities which raise the level of greenhouse gases. It will also focus on those activities which will reduce the content of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere which is a major contributor to global warming.
