Introduction
Doing the two assignments was a good experience. One of the assignments dealt with how undocumented Immigrants are unable to access healthcare and the second assignment was about the licensure and certification of Professional Nurses. Having completed the two assignments, I have learnt a lot from them; one is that the country is not providing healthcare for all, how to get Interim Approval for APRN, the certification process to become a professional nurse and lastly I developed an ambition of what I will do best once I become a Professional Nurse.
I learned that it is not apparent that everybody has access to healthcare. Undocumented immigrants find it hard to access healthcare because they fear that once they visit a doctor, they shall be identified and deported that is according to statistics provided by Hacker et al., (2011). Hence, this calls for more to be done to solve this problem because if not addressed well, it can lead to so many losses of lives.
I learned that one can get an interim approval for APRN practice. The approval lasts for 120 days, and it has no renewal. I also discovered that the authorization could not be renewed nor be extended hence suitable for a person who is about to start working in 60 days. Lastly, I learned that you might not get full approval for the APRN approval once the Interim approval is over if all the requirements are not met.
By doing the licensure and certification assignment, I have learned that for one to be an Advanced Professional nurse, you have to be certified by the Texas Board of Nursing and other bodies identified by the board. The process is usually a rigorous exercise which ensures that for one to be an advanced professional nurse, they would have been tested and approved to give treatment and care to the patients. These guidelines are provided by the American Association of Nursing Practitioners. Hence followed by other Nursing Bodies. I am impressed with the role that Texas board of nursing is playing in ensuring that the public receive safe care. Their action made me to believe that health is a very essential thing to everybody. On that basis I am glad that the quality of healthcare will improve when only competent nurses are allowed to offer healthcare services to the public.
I am hoping that once I become a professional, I will treat all people regardless of race or citizenship. I am also hoping that once I become a licensed nurse, I will try to legislate a law that will make people get treated regardless of their citizenship status (whether undocumented immigrants or not) and also make ensure that they can get insurance covers for medical grounds. All these will enable all people to get quality healthcare for all.
In my view, it is possible to provide healthcare services for all without discrimination of where they come from. We as professional medics should not be involved in immigration issues that may deny people a chance of getting quality healthcare. Also, the process of becoming a licensed nurse should always be a rigorous exercise to make people who are competent enough to be nurses. Lastly, I hope to be a professional nurse one day and be able to serve all people equally and also fight for the rights of the downtrodden.
