What is plagiarism?
Plagiarism involves copying material, either word from word or as a paraphrase, from anything ranging from books to internet sites, course notes, oral or visual presentations, lab reports, computer assignments, or artistic works. Plagiarism, therefore, entails presenting someone's work as your own, copying words or ideas from a person without giving them credit, failing to put a quotation in quotation marks. It's therefore generally regarded as an academic crime that is not acceptable.
Why is plagiarism unacceptable?
Plagiarism is not acceptable in copyright laws. Besides, plagiarism entails cheating, lying and pretending that the information is authentic which is not acceptable. It is not right to take the credit off someone's work. It is not acceptable to present someone else's ideas that are why teachers are insisting that students should put information in their words.
One should never copy and paste any content and claim that it is yours. No matter how tired or unmotivated one is, this should never happen. Perhaps one should be creative and think in depth on the topic you are writing about to write new content. Copy and pasting can make you earn a high penalty and scoreless marks.
What will you do to avoid plagiarism?
A writer may Paraphrase relevant information that he finds perfect for his research paper. After reading through the work, he needs to put it into his own words by making sure that he does not copy verbatim more than two words in a row from the text he has found. If the writer uses more than two words together, he will have to use quotation marks (Lipson, Pp.28).
Also, the best way of avoiding plagiarism is by avoiding paraphrasing and rewriting the whole statement. You should read other writers work not to produce a paper that is similar to theirs but to get an idea on what to write. Plagiarism is one thing that a writer should not have as everyone can format any given information and writing a unique paper from it. Any piece of writing receives credit if it is unique and cannot be retrieved from any other place. Following the given steps will enable you to write an individual summary which is authentic and straightforward.
Additionally, particular detecting systems have been developed that check whether any piece of writing is plagiarized. This can be of much help. These services are found online, and thus they are at everyone's display. One only need an internet connection and use the best one so that you can have all errors concerning plagiarism detected. They are of a different quality which is why picking the best is more advantageous.
Citing is another effective way to avoid plagiarism. The writer does this by following the formatting guidelines that is; APA, MLA, Chicago are used by his educational institution or the institution that issued the research request. This usually entails the addition of the author's name and the date of the publication.
Referencing is also one of the most important ways to avoid plagiarism. This entails a page of works cited at the end of the writer's research paper. This page must meet the document formatting guidelines used by the writer's educational institution. The information is precise and includes the author's date of publication, title, and source.
