Introduction
Organizational design is a crucial aspect for any organization striving to be successful and to have a competitive edge in the industry in which it operates. However, to attain these benefits, the company must set strategies that help it overcome the organizational challenges it may encounter. Hence, this peer response essay focuses on organizational design and ways companies overcome organizational challenges that they encounter.
According to Otte-Trojel, Rundall, de Bont, and van de Klundert (2017), the process of organizational design helps companies improve both the technical and human resource sides of the business. The writer in DQ 1 post records that his company, Spectrum Health Care, has set its organizational design around quality healthcare. Additionally, the company strives to maintain high standards of what it wants and how it wants the standards to be developed. Overall, good organizational designs help companies deliver exceptional services (Heizer, Render, & Griffin, 2014).
The writer of DQ 2 post identifies four primary organizational design challenges namely differentiation, integration, centralization, and decentralization. These challenges may hinder a company from achieving its set mission (SantosPache, & Birkholz, 2015). However, RBC has done a tremendous job in responding to these challenges. According to the post, the company launched a new leadership model in 2017 that focuses majorly on the new company's mission, vision, and values (RBC, 2018). The model has also helped with differentiation because it constantly challenges employees to link what they do to the overall goal.
In DQ 3 post, the writer identifies eight organizational design challenges and discusses how Amazon handles the challenges. From the post, it is clear that Amazon uses diverse strategies to overcome each challenge. For example, it differentiates itself from competitors by offering products, services, and customer services that other companies have not managed to duplicate (McBeath, 2018). Similarly, to overcome the challenge of balancing standardization and mutual adjustment, the writer records that Amazon focuses on efficiency in all its processes. However, although Amazon is a good example of how companies can overcome organizational design challenges, the writer recommends each company to find its approach and strategic structures that suit its desired business objective (Daft, 2015).
Conclusion
In summary, all the writers describe how their organizations structure their organizational designs in an effort to achieve the set organizational goals and overcome the possible organizational design challenges.
