Most people say that love is a 2 a.m. text telling the other how lonely they are. Others think that love is one night stands and pointless hookups. Society believes that love is selfishness that fulfills one's desires, which is why modern relationships focus around physical connections rather than emotional ones (Fritzer & Hudelist, 2017). The current generation thinks that love is text messages, phone calls, Instagram posts, or staring on a screen. Love in the 21st century is crawling back to the person who physically and psychologically manipulated them and lied to them, thinking that that is what love is. Unfortunately, people have a different definition of what love is, where one finds that love and heartbreaks to have become everyday words. Love is described as a set of emotions and behaviors that are associated with intense feelings of protectiveness, affection, and respect for another one. However, there still are people who have been in love and lost, while others have never been in love. The paper shall discuss why it is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.

Love can have various constructive effects on people's physical and mental health. It leads to better abilities to cope with stress, reduces the rates of depression and worry, and even improved physical health. Psychological research shows that intimate relationships are capable of fostering good mental health (Fuchs, Schreier, Van Osselaer, 2015). There are no disadvantages to being in a relationship if it is the right time. However, a person who has never loved at all is vulnerable to depression, sadness, lack of abilities to fight stress, emotional imbalance, and slowed motivation. If one has never been in love, they lack all the support that comes with love that might lead to reduced perception towards life and eventually increase their vulnerability to depressions (Seebach, 2017).

In conclusion, having loved and lost is better than never to have been in love at all. This is because of the experience, warmth, and affection that is brought about by love, and when people have lost, they always fight to get to love again since they know the feeling they had when in love. Those who have never loved at all are at risk of being lonely, which might lead to depression or other related complications.
