Introduction
The IOM future of nursing is improving health and leading change in the nursing industry. The report of IOM is conducted by interviewing the nursing labor force. The examination that is conducted emphasis on the perilous intersection among the health wants of diverse, varying populations of nurses through the life expectancy and the activities of the nursing labor force. This paper explains of how I consider myself fitting into the IOM imminent of nursing by following the recommendations of increasing the nursing labor force, increasing the nurses with a doctorate and making sure that nurses are involved in lifelong learning. The paper summarizes how I will be able to contest for jobs if I increase the level of my education.
For me to fit in the IOM imminent of nursing, the figure of nurses with a baccalaureate degree should be increased by the year 2020 up to 80 percent (Spetz, 2002). This is because while learning the baccalaureate degree takes a longer time than the associate degree and the diploma program, and it is only offered to universities and colleges for four years. For over many recent years, practice leaders, and researchers found out that the level of education makes a difference in how the nurses operate. The baccalaureate degree program has both the associate and diploma programs combined in it, and it also offers scholars with a deeper study of nursing management and leadership, nursing research and also the study of social and physical sciences (Spetz, 2002). If the percentage of nurses with a baccalaureate degree is increased, then there will be more advancement of patients care in the hospitals because nursing education is liked with the safety and quality care of a patient, and also lower echelons of patient transience will have been reduced.
Doctorate in nursing is designed to develop good leaders in nursing because it has the highest echelon of nursing proficiency and works either in leadership character or clinical setting upon gaining the needed credentials. Nurses who have a doctorate possess expert acquaintance to impact the healthcare results through unswerving patient care, health strategy enactment, and organizational leadership. It the number of nurses with a doctorate is increased, there will be a better clinical environment and increased care because these nurses act as evaluators of care, change agents, and also leaders. With their improved strategy database of care delivery on patients, then there will be significant positive effects on the healthcare results.
When nurses engage in lifelong learning, they grow positive impacts on their daily life because new things are coming up every day, and they will be able to handle them. Lifelong learning progresses the quality of nursing education and offers nurses new skills to deal with new challenges in hospitals (Kutney-Lee, Sloane & Aiken, 2013). Nurses who engage in lifelong learning gain new nursing skill every day, and this helps to save lives because they have a better understanding of how to take care of the patients. When the skills of the healthcare workers improve, also there will be the advancement of patient's results because nurses who engage in lifelong learning acquire new ways on how to relate with the patients.
When a person has a bachelor of science in nursing, he or she can be offered higher salaries, supervisory roles, and more responsibility. There are many job markets for a nurse with BSN because many employers or clinic need a nurse who has good qualities in nursing and understands more about the patients and a nurse with a BSN has all these qualities (Fulcher & Mullin, 2011). My options in the job market according to my educational level is that I would like to become a nursing director, clinical nurse expert, nursing manager, public health nurse, and also a nurse educator. This is because I have pursued in a BSN and I can be able to run all the posts that I have mentioned.
Since the need for more qualified nurses in hospitals and clinics is increasing, I have to increase the level of my education so that I can be able to contend for jobs. By advancing the level of my education, I will improve my nursing skills and qualities as recommended by many clinics, and this will help me to acquire a job more easily. When you increase your level of education, you gain knowledge about new ways of nursing that maybe other nurses do not have and this gives you an added advantage when looking for a job.
My role in the future of nursing will be positively impacted if I increase my level of education. This is because there are new nursing methods that arise every day, and when I learn about them, my nursing skills are also improved. It also helps me to gain more experience in nursing because I will have a better understanding of the patients' needs and this might help me to get a promotion in the future and thus affecting my role of nursing positively.
