The primary purpose of the study is to investigate the status of the American shopping malls and the reason behind the closure of major departmental stores. Due to the recent crisis in the major departmental stores which has led to smaller stores being closed (Allen, G. 2016). Hence the main aim of the essay will be to research as to why the bigger departmental stores are being closed down prematurely? The impact of the closure on the business traders? The roles played by the government? Why are America's shopping malls rotting away?

Nearly, major departmental stores including Sears, mercy's, Kohls and the Walmart has since been shuttered in the recent years majorly to reduce the losses from the unprofitable locations hence rising the online shopping (Davila, A. M. 2016). The research indicates that in the midst of the 90s the total number of the shopping malls peaked at around were 1500 while today only about 1000 are left. As the new malls get built, department stores which usually pay a significant sum on the lease will eventually move out making it harder to for the mall to survive. The development of the shopping malls was less driven by the demand and majorly by the opportunity. As the new trading centres get built, the anchor stores are lured away, and the cannibalization process gets underway.

Moreover, hundreds of malls and also thousands of the mall-based stores have since been shuttered in the last two decades, and also many more may be closed within the next ten years (Farrell, J. J. 2010). As a result of the closure of the big stores, many others smaller stores get closed too. It causes a big problem for the mall owners and any other retailer in the mall.

Sears (SHLD) which had operated averagely 3800 stores as recent as ten years ago is now down to 1104 stores, and JCPenney (JCP) was set to close its 128 stores. Also, Marcys (M) closed 68 stores early this year (Lawless, S. 2014). Lastly, many anchor tenants are now closing hundreds of stores like Amazon enjoy their lunch. Some very successful malls may be capable of surviving if they are capable of converting department stores spaces into more attractions for the customers.

As a result of the defaults bankruptcies, more than the three hundred retailers have since filed for bankruptcy this year. The significance of the provided evidence is to clarify the impacts of the closures of the major department stores in the American market. From the evidence provided it is clear that many of these stores have been shuttered (Newton, M. 2017). The research also indicates that due to the closure of the major department stores other smaller malls also got closed.

The action led to the filing of more than three hundreds retailers for bankruptcy. The research indicated that some other successful malls could survive the crisis if they are capable of converting departmental store spaces into a very attractive for the customer's use (Scharoun, L. 2012).

The main reason for including these evidence is mainly to support my research findings. Without the distinctive facts, the research will never appeal to the reader and any other stakeholder.

The piece of the evidence included support the thesis statement in the following ways; it avails the appropriate data for clarity of the thesis statement, i.e., clarifying how the future of the American shopping malls would come to pass. The evidence provided also acts the collected data/information on the future situation of the American shopping malls. The expiratory essay aims to find out the future of the American shopping malls; major departmental stores have since been closed down leading to the closure of other small malls (Sheumaker, H., & Wajda, S. T. 2012). Many anchored tenants left the mall too break their leases as well as to negotiate much cheaper rent.

Conclusion

In summary, the paper on the future of American shopping malls has discussed the crisis facing the American market as far as the trading malls are concerned. Americans are currently being faced with a challenge of the closure of major department stores. The solution for the closing of the shopping malls are; the American government should subsidize shopping malls to help the retailer's lease stores at an affordable cost. The smaller stores should be designed in a way that they remain secured in case the large departmental stores closes.
