Introduction
There are problems that lead to someone having electronic addiction. There is information overload from social media platforms. In the current days, there are as many social apps that are freely available as possible. These include Instagram, Facebook, Tiktok, and Whatsapp that all allow someone to connect with friends. The recent one, Tiktok, is addictive, mainly because many content creators are posting their funny videos, and one is tempted to keep scrolling even when it is not the time for such interaction. Too much surfing through online platforms leads to a decrease in the productivity of the individual as it has become a major distraction.
Interactive Activities
Another problem that can lead to electronic addiction is the availability of interactive activities that lead to net compulsions. These activities are such as online gambling, trading stocks, and online. These activities have proved to have a detrimental impact on the financial stability of the users, and they tend to disrupt their regular duties (Kuss & Lopez-Fernandez, 2016). Another problem is compulsive information seeking because the internet provides its users with a wide range of data. As a user, I am aware of the effects of online gaming that make the user obsessed with winning, and one spends an excessive amount of time playing the game that eventually causes a notable decrease in productivity levels.
Some of the ways to deal with that addiction are to have an internet time out where one gets to log out of all the social media platforms for the better part of the day. Self-control critically applies in these situations because there is no one to monitor the amount of time you spent on the internet and generally on the phone (Starcevic & Aboujaoude, 2017). It is also vital that one gets to enjoy meeting with friends like a day out and engaging in other activities such as going for movies. This way, one will be off the internet for quite a while, and making it a habit will ensure that you spend more days without it.
Personal Experience
I think that electronics have had both the good and the bad sides. I am on the phone for quite a long time, scrolling and laughing at funny posts and videos that I get distracted to the extent of not doing my chores, homework, or being absent-minded when I am in class. However, the best thing about my electronics is that I get to communicate easily with my friends, family, and pass messages quickly when they are needed (Longstreet et al., 2019). During most of the days, my electronics are a big distraction because they take up most of my personal life, and I want to join the wave of making videos and pictures.
Conclusion
Over time I have been using my electronics, I have experienced new behaviors that have replaced the old ones. Some of these new behaviors include not going out more often with my friends as I used to because I need to get home and watch a show or the fact that I think it is more fun for me to be scrolling through sites rather than hanging out with friends. I have completely changed my life to being an introvert while I used to be an extrovert. I have slowly got addicted to the internet and being on my electronics all the time because they give me the satisfaction that I need to get going and feel relaxed instead of enjoying outdoor activities.
