Introduction
I have always believed that there are a lot of opportunities left in this saturated market, and only the best entrepreneur with the most innovative idea and the most adept logic skills can capture them. I believe in taking chances where an opportunity presents itself. I am a risk taker, and I am confident that I will make a good profession out of my career. I am intrigued by the sense of innovation and problem-solving solutions. Above all, I am ready to take challenges and formulate solutions throughout my profession.
I am interested in joining the MTSI program. Currently, I am a student of Electrical, Computer Engineering, and Mathematics at the University of Washington. I am also pursuing communication concentration in ECE department. I pursued embedded computing but later changed to communication level because logic skills are better than coding abilities. Even though I had a good time in my previous field of study, that does not mean I have a problem with coding. However, I changed my concentration because I possess logic skills that supersede my coding skills At the same time, logical skills will be more beneficial to me than coding expertise in achieving my dream to become a smart city top-level designer.
Over the years many people have focused on the quality of their living standards. Therefore, innovators have developed the idea of a smart city to improve the lives of most citizens. Smart city design is a favorite topic in the current times, and a lot of city governments have designed different plans to develop them. The essential step to make a city smarter is to combine each separate element in the town together such that the whole city will perform as a complex network with centralized control. Lack of top-level designers incapacitates the ability of giant companies, such as Huawei in China, to develop an element of a smart city. Top-level designing is a new profession for developing smart cities. Most companies concentrate on techniques for development and therefore hire professional designers to improve their products. I think this is an excellent opportunity for me to capture the market and become a top-level designer in smart cities.
When I first heard about the MSTI program two years ago, I was intrigued by the topics that the program covered. My main aim is to be a top-level designer in the future, therefore, through this program, I can learn the techniques and acquire technology skills that will help me in achieving my goal. Building a smart city requires a framework that pulls different resources together to create a central network that controls various entities. However, the government lacks a standard structure to consolidate the elements required when building a smart city. This is due to different situations and demands suitable for each city. Therefore, it would be difficult to create a central framework that would work in all the towns. Hence, by acquiring the techniques in MSTI program, I can be part of the solution to design a successful smart city plan.
Entrepreneurs such as Steve Jobs and Bill Gates have been successful because they have adequate knowledge in their line of specialization. At the same time, they have an engineering background that helps them in generating innovative ideas that work best for their products. Most importantly, they have a team of professional designers that revolutionizes various plans and designs to improve their outcomes and capture new markets. On my part, to be a top-level designer, I need to study innovative techniques, integrated design, logic skills and develop a sense of innovation and problem-solving solutions. Even though GIX is a new program, the courses for this program are comprehensive. The collective study of engineering, business and law can improve the skills that I need. I am also interested in gaining knowledge from diverse subjects. In summary, the reason I am interested in the MSTI program is that it gives me an opportunity to be a comprehensive engineer, designer, and entrepreneur.
As an ECE major student, I attended Professor Hannaford's class. He used his own experience to guide us in our career paths. I was motivated by his achievements and professional life to pursue my dream of becoming a top-level designer. I had a chance to analyze his latest research on medical surgery where he focuses on developing an automated surgical machine, and I can say that I am intrigued by the sense of innovation and problem-solving solutions. I admire his enthusiasm for scientific inventions which will result in changes in the society. His achievements have convinced me to pursue my goal and concentrate on finding solutions to the existing problems. I like his bio-robotics lab where he has been working on his latest invention. Professor Hannaford is among the scholars I respect, and I am a fan of his robotics work. He has inspired me to take up challenges and avoid limiting the imagination of my achievements. Although my career path is away from his specialization, he is an iconic model worthy of attention due to his achievements. I have a lot to learn, but I aspire to reach to Professor Hannaford's standard as I pursue my professional career.
Conclusion
I have visited the GIX building severally. The experience of the academic atmosphere in the research lab has made me picture my future in this place. Therefore, I am looking forward to achieving success in the future. With all the inspirations I have gathered so far, I can take up challenges and expand my imagination on what I can achieve. I have a clear and integrated plan to achieve my goals in the future and become a successful professional in my career. I am confident that the various courses in this program will improve my skills and help me to achieve success. By applying what I learned from my two majors in this program, I am convinced that I will make a top-level designer for smart cities. I believe that there are opportunities for a market suited for entrepreneurs equipped with the radical, innovative ideas and expertise. I am sure that GIX is the best choice and I am eager to be part of this program to develop more innovative products.
