Introduction

Diversity entails all those traits which define what we are as human beings and what we are not and therefore, in general diversity is not limited to race, gender, ethnicity, language, sexual orientation, nationality, educational level, age, and ability. In a broader general perspective, diversity is more than what we actually purport to see. There are different layers or types of diversity that have been studied by many different authors and scholars. The personality layer starts to be shaped on the onset in life and is affected by the effects of the other layers. The personality layer might change over a given period of time but usually remain fairly stable over a certain period of time.

The internal dimensions comprise of those levels of diversity that an individual has minimal control over and in a sociological term they are known often as 'ascribed statuses.' They are normally the forms of diversity that individuals first encounter us in real life. The external dimensions also comprise of those levels of diversity that change over a given period of time and they referred to as "achieved statuses" by the sociologists. They are the traits which assist us in forming the basis of relationships and friendships, the interests we possess, the things we do and the careers that we eventually choose among other factors. ( Cohen, Jordan, Barbara & Charles, 2002)

Diversity and healthcare industry provides an important argument concerning the rising level in diversity in the healthcare industry is of importance to the industry. The increased diversity in the physician workforce and inclusive of all healthcare professions will result in greater access, greater cultural competence, increased levels of diverse management and improved research in particular. As per the changing demographics in the United States of America, the proportion of female compared to men is roughly the same. The females are somehow older compared to their male counterparts, and this is as a result of the longer life expectancy of women.

From the health insurance coverage status by age, it clearly shows, for example, the proportion of male to female in children below age six and below is lower than that of female, and there is a number of a female who is covered by the insurance cover in relation to their male counterparts. With this kind of statistics, this will assist in coming with the ways in which the male population can be increased, or the survival or the mortality rate among the boy child can be contained. As it can be seen, they're a high percent of a male with no health insurance, and this means that the health care delivery should come up with ways of containing the trend of the male population as it will affect productivity in the long run. The number of children born below 6 years, a majority number is a male population in relation to the female but trend then sharply decreases in regard to the male population, but the female population takes an upward trajectory. This is attributed to the longer life expectancy of the female population.

The 6-18 range in males is the most covered in terms of the male with the insurance, and 26-34 range is the least covered under the same category. The 6-18 range is most covered because this represents that active labor force in the future and the need to contain the mortality rates among the male in that age category. Alternatively, in the female category, the most covered range is the 6-18 years, and the least covered female with no health insurance is 26-34 range. The 26-34 is least covered because it comprises of the active female population which is actively employed.
