Introduction
Coronavirus is a respiratory virus that causes severe acute respiratory syndrome. It is an exceptionally infectious disease that originated from Wuhan in China in December 2019. Since the onset of Coronavirus disease and its rapid infectious rates, it has led to a severe 2019-20 coronavirus pandemic. It has spread to nearly all continents affecting most of the countries in the world. Some of most of the clinical presentations due to the presence of the virus in the body include; high fever, dry cough, dyspnea. Other symptoms include diarrhea, sore throat, muscle pain, and lack of smell. The incubation period for this virus is typically five days and has a wide range from two to fourteen days. However, some of the normal symptoms include pathologies in the respiratory system. Still, sometimes it progresses to mild pneumonia, which might later lead to multi-organ failure and then the death of the patient. One of the questions that one needs to ask is why is the disease spreading very fast across the globe, and what is the most efficient management plans should be adopted to end this pandemic?
Disaster Management Plan on Coronavirus
A lot of proper management schemes should be stipulated to ensure the containment of this disease (Cordero-Reyes et al., 2017). Coronavirus is transmitted through contact and inhaling of contaminated air containing the virus. Particular and scientific sound intervention procedures need to be initiated to ensure that the coronavirus is brought under control. Disaster management plans should always be developed and should be flexible to accommodate the rapid trends of the virus. Health facilities, in conjunction with other health-related agencies, should always cooperate to ensure that this pandemic is brought under control globally to reduce fatalities across the globe. Medical committees play a very vital role in ensuring that the health facilities are working as expected to ensure that all reported cases are well handled.
Decision making is a fundamental process in the containment of a pandemic. All decisions being made must be sound and are working for the good to control the pandemic. Within a health facility, all decisions will be made by the medical committee whose main role will also be stipulating roles to the various department within the health facility to ensure that all the available staff is working towards controlling the pandemic. Training of employees about the coronavirus will also increase their knowledge about coronavirus hence increasing their competence. Health facilities should also have a proper resource utilization scheme on how the local and available resources within the health facility can be utilized in ensuring that all the patients with COVID-19 disease are well taken care of to reduce the mortality rate.
The effectiveness of this disaster management plans can be sufficiently compared to a PDCA cycle. Rapid assessment of all possible solutions towards the control of the disease (Hasan & Hossain, 2018). Testing the results and evaluating the effectiveness of the plans that have shown to work. The effectiveness of utilizing the medical committee in the disaster control plan is used maximally as all decisions are centrally made. Evaluation of several plans and coming up with one plan that is well suitable for the management of the pandemic is very critical.
Mass communication and awareness are essential in the management of Pandemic (Hanson, 2016). Ensuring that information about the spread and all the possible ways to prevent infection is very primary in ensuring the success in the containment of COVID-19. The use of all communication media available, especially those that could reach masses within a short time, is essential. The use of local communication forums such as online groups is very vital in passing information to all staff working within a health facility.
PDCA cycle can be essential when it is applied in the control of the corona pandemic. PDCA elaborates that planning should be given a lot of attention as it is the primary determinant about the success of any particular project. Checking whether the specific plan is efficient in the containment of the Corona pandemic (Novel, 2020). The do and action part of the plan, which mainly includes the execution of the chosen plan in the disaster management process, should be the last to execute, as stated in the PDCA plan. It is in line that the management of the corona pandemic should also utilize adequate planning before the execution of the particular plan (Johnson, 2016).
Conclusion
In conclusion, Health facilities should also take up the responsibility to ensure that information regarding the coronavirus has reached the general public. People are more likely to believe what is told by the doctor. Therefore, all the staff within a particular health facility should concentrate on creating awareness about efficient methods of infection prevention rather than waiting to manage the condition.
