Introduction
Bullying is a considerable problem experienced among individuals who share a given social context. There is a significant relationship between the given social issue and a number of sociological concepts. These concepts are either affected or may act towards determining the occurrence of the problem. This paper identifies cultural beliefs and biases, social roles, social inequalities, and existing social conditions, as the sociological concepts which serve as the criteria for a better understanding hence a successful concept mapping.
Cultural Beliefs and Biases
Cultural beliefs and biases have a significant connection with bullying in schools. An example is a religious belief in which believers in a given religion feel superior to the others. For instance, Christianity has been embraced more than any other religion in the world. In this case, for instance, the Christian students tend to bully their Muslim counterparts based on the difference (Fullchange & Furlong, 2016). Another example is the application of individualism in which a bully student oppresses his fellow based on their personal or individual relationships. A student, with regard to this argument, may undergo oppression depending on how they relate with others.
Social Roles
Social roles occasionally serve as great forces behind the occurrence of bullying and the victims are seriously affected as a result. For example, parents promote bullying and become bullies when they use commands to communicate with their children rather than giving them the opportunity to defend themselves. It becomes a form of a bully since the parents strive to ensure that power is always on their side. Fullchange and Furlong (2016) suggested that a provider also plays a similar role when he or she only expects an individual to follow their directions otherwise they would stop their provisions. One, therefore, complies with the commands to secure the services even if he or she does not enjoy the whole exercise involved.
Social Inequalities
Social inequality has a great influence on the occurrence of bullying. An example is a race; as much as the world is trying to fight racism, it has still remained a problem. Subsequently, the whites regard themselves to be of greater superiority than other races like the blacks. The whites, as a result, call the blacks discriminative names and sometimes refer to them as animals. This results in a very bad form of bullying (Fullchange, & Furlong, 2016). Moreover, social class is also another problem. Individuals of higher social class in the society are normally respected and some of them take the advantage of their regards to bully their relatively poor colleagues. Some of them may even destroy the properties of others intentionally and never mind to compensate.
Existing Social Conditions
Some social conditions are experienced in the society, and most of them occur as a result of the thriving bullying. For instance, bullying has a considerable to play in the increase in the crime rates among a given group of people. This is possible since bullying is a crime and even the young bullies at school or home are most likely to grow into serious bullies as they may be used to the bad habit. Bullying, therefore, develops into criminal activity when not well attended to. Bullying also contributes to the occurrence of unemployment; this is experienced when workplace bullying is high. People looking for a job may be unwilling to work at a certain place owing to the previous experiences they had. Besides, people fear where they believe that discrimination is practiced.
