Film Reaction
The shocking exposure of the cruelty suffered by farm animals exposed in the twelve-minute film "Farm to Fridge" possess a horrifying experience faced by the innocent animals that face their premature death in the hands of their caregivers or slaughterhouses. Watching the short documentary evokes unforgettable horror of the harsh reality suffered behind closed doors in the meat, egg, and dairy production plants and farms. The methods utilized to mishandle animals to produce food in factory farms is crude and against the federal protection for abuse of living animals. This unpopular culture of cruelty and violence takes a viewer by surprise on the degree of pain subjected to the animals before they are placed on the market stores as packed meat. The view of this film makes one feel awkward towards meat production due to the pain subjected to the animal by their merciless caregivers and other concerned parties. The subjection of young animals to merciless killing and suffocation makes one feel irritated by the type of pain subjected to the innocent animals causing one to think of better options for eliminating unwanted animals in the factory farms other than subjecting them to extreme pain and ruthlessness.
Observed Practices
Feeding the population using the different methods exposed by the undercover investigation conducted by the Mercy for Animals organization shows a culture of cruelty that is horrified and unjustified (Lanfield, 2012). All those practices need to be eradicated and factory farms emphasized through legal enforcement against subjecting animals reared for meat, dairy or poultry products to untold suffering. Beating, stabbing, or slitting the throat of live animals when they are fully conscious of the pain without painkillers or anesthesia is a violation of their protection needs Therefore it is not necessary to handle animal with painful mutilations, neglect, and other merciless acts to feed the population. While it is essential to treat farmed animals with care and compassionate as well as killing them without subjecting them to extremely painful and conscious killing methodologies.
Scenes
In the film "Farm to Fridge," the entire coverage is horrifying but there are certain scenes that are extremely bothering (Lanfield, 2012). For instance, on 0:40 minutes the castration of piglets by farm workers without asthenia and painkillers is very disturbing because of how the workers brutally cut open the piglets' skin without proper disinfection causing infection and merciless deaths. Again at 1:30 minutes, killing of unwanted and weak piglets through stamping them on the ground head first and dumping them on bins for suffocation with carbon dioxide is merciless and ruthless. Further, at 6:31 killing of unwanted calves and at 8.30, castration of beef cattle as well as throat slitting in the slaughterhouses. These among other scenes are disturbing for the viewers.
Personal Perception
After watching the film the challenging and disturbing scenes brings out the change in the choice of foods. The images of this provocative film bring out the reality faced by innocent animals in the hands of their caregivers, slaughter expert killers among other ruthless abuses in their life on the factory farm. Some of the animals and poultry are grown very fast with chemicals and other harsh conditions subjecting them to immense suffering. These conditions have however changed my opinion on the meat products and other farm productions for the health safety degree. Subjecting animals to pain and suffering has discredited the practices of factory farms.
