The organization can be traced back to the twentieth century, where it was founded in the year 1969. The chief Executive Officer, Polly Bednash, explains that the organization initially had less than ten staff members when she joined back in the year 1986 ( American Association of Colleges of Nursing, 2019). However, the organization has received fervent growth under her, achieving seven hundred institutions from the initial one hundred and twenty-one member institutions at the time of its inception. The institutions are widespread via the fifty states in addition to Puerto Rico and DC.

ACCN is very crucial to advanced nursing practices. Nursing schools are significant in the administering of quality nursing education. In light of this, ACCN is keen on developing the key standards that ensure quality education about nursing is offered in nursing schools (Matthews, 2014). The impact that AACN has on nursing can be classified into social, cultural, economic, and political. The leadership impact that ACCN has on its nurses is very influential in understanding the politics governing the nursing discipline in general (Rushton & Stutzer, 2016). The leadership skills can also be harnessed and applied in real World Politics, which would lead to a politician that is health-conscious and concerned with the bettering of people lives.
