Introduction
Human sexuality is how individuals identify themselves sexually. Human sexuality could involve physical touch that leads to sexual feelings or appearance. It includes gender, sex, and sexual orientation (Lucas & Fox, 2020). Over time throughout history, up to date, human sexuality has not been the same. This document will evaluate some of the events that have brought a considerable influence on human sexuality.
In the year 1960, there was a feminist movement where women wanted to come up with ways of controlling pregnancies ("The Pill and the Sexual Revolution | American Experience | PBS", 2020). A contraceptive pill was introduced, and since then, most women were more comfortable with having sex since now they worried less about possible after sex issues.
During the First World War that happened between the year 1914 to 1919, women had different gender roles to men (Crouthamel, 2020). While men went to war and fight, women remained home to do house chores. Because of the situation in the war with all the sexual needs, it led to new sexual behaviours. The sexual practices include infidelity and prostitution, which exists up to date.
In the year 1961, the sodomy law was made in Illinois that accepted same-sex behaviour. Today in most places around the world, there are laws made to protect the LGBT community. In the year 1875, they discovered that for conception to occur, the sperm had to penetrate and fuse with an ovum (TI, 2020). Unlike before, most communities believed that a child was created in the stomach secretly by a god.
The discovery of HIV/AIDS as a sexually transmitted disease in the year 1980, made people cautious about sex over time (National Research Council (US) Committee on AIDS Research and the Behavioral, Turner, Miller & Moses, 2020). It led to the introduction of condoms as a contraceptive in the year 19550. To the present day, condoms are still used at contraceptives and a safety control measure for STI's ("History of Contraception- Condoms and Sponges", 2020).
During the Great Depression, in the year 1924-1939, men were expected to provide for their families to prove their masculinity. The men who could not get a good job to provide for their families felt like his masculinity and ego was attacked. Most men still work very hard and provide for their families as a boost for their ego and masculinity ("Gender Roles and Sexual Relations, Impact of the Great Depression on | Encyclopedia.com", 2019).
Human sexuality has changed throughout the generations. These days, people are comfortable to change their gender and sexuality. People are now comfortable being with other people of the same gender sexually. In the coming generations, people might be comfortable engaging in sexual activities with animals.
