Introduction

Path to citizenship is also referred to as "amnesty." It is an act that means to allow the immigrants who are undocumented to acquire the nationality of a country. This process might need extra requirements like additional waiting times, fees, and background checks. It has been reported that the undocumented citizens make up most of the American population. About 11.7 million people who are undocumented are living in the US since the year 2006 (ProCon 1). Is right to take all these people back to their mother countries? Is it an act that is justified?

Reports have it that these undocumented immigrants take up the job opportunities that the 'normal Americans' dislike. These people have experienced a dangerous situation at one point in their life back in their home countries. They, therefore, opt to flee to safer grounds where they can get peace and any activity that is constructive to help them rebuild their lives. In the countries they move in, they are ready to take jobs that have regarded as shoddy and odd by the American citizens such as working as sewer line repairers, garbage collectors and many other low-profile posts (Debate.Org 1). These people by themselves are delighted to have a position that can sustain them in a conducive environment than their troubled nations. It is an act that helps the countries they move in by improving the economy of the nation by making financial contributions as legal taxpayers.

It is also a moral thing to keep the families of the immigrants who are not documented into the nation. It is ordinarily a challenge economically and logistically to take back the considerable number of these illegal immigrants to their home countries. There have been much enforcement in the United States to deport these people, but none of them has been able to deal with the undocumented immigration efficiently. It has been reported that US spends typically about 17 billion dollars annually on the enforcement of illegal immigration (Intelligence Squared US 1). It is a costly process which might be prevented in future if these undocumented citizens can be granted path to citizenship.

Conclusion

Giving these people path to citizenship will also help in strengthening a country's culture. It is the desire and the pride of any nation to have different types of people and races that are in harmony and well integrated. It helps in the passing and sharing of information, practices, values and ideas that are crucial in the national development. Therefore, allowing these immigrants from other nations to become citizens of a country will ensure that the state has people from different races and ethnical backgrounds all united by citizenship. Therefore, the state will have a rich, vibrant and a diverse culture (Debate.Org 1).
