Introduction
According to studies conducted by various environmentalist groups, it was identified that there was a need to come up with sustainable measures that would aid in environmental conservation. This is because it had been determined that there is a continued need for quick measures on how to curb the ongoing environmental degradation. Global warming resulting in changes in the global climatic conditions was a fundamental threat to the future ecological sustainability (Pieterse, Parnell & Haysom, 2018). As a result, the United Nations, in partnership with other member states, came up with various sustainable development goals that would be implemented in ensuring that the desired conservational measures are achieved.
The identified sustainable goals were 17 in total, and they were all aimed at coming up with an all-inclusive social approach that would ensure every individual is included in the developmental agenda. The top three SDG goals included; eradication of poverty, zero hunger and good health and wellbeing. The above three developmental programmes were prioritized because they were aimed at community empowerment which was the fundamental basis of the sustainable development agendas. Different measures were implemented to facilitate the sustainable development goals with preference being given over those objectives that appeared to have a far and wide-reaching outcome on the target group. The SDG's got adapted in the year 2015 by the U.N in conjunction with other member states. The overall agenda was to ensure that by the year 2030, the individuals on the planet would have access to quality service and also bring the environmental sustenance to measurable proportions (Hirani & Richter, 2017).
SDG Implementation Procedures
Poverty eradication
This was the fundamental goal in the sustainable development goals that the UN and the member state decided to give the most preference. This is because the committee identified poverty as a critical cause of the observed environmental degradation as well as other challenges experienced globally. As of the year 2015, when the sustainability project was being launched, it was identified that more than half of the entire world population was living in poverty. This was particularly widespread in the third world countries as well as certain Asian regions. To ensure that there was the achievement of the desired objectives, poverty eradication was initiated through the following approaches;
Creation of more employment opportunities- this involved the setting up of new industries as well as turning around unproductive enterprises into viable production areas in the poverty-stricken areas. In third world countries, for instance, the goals included reviving collapsed industries and putting them back into the production front. This way, it was possible to restore the employment sector in this region. As a result, through providing the people with a means to their livelihood, the UN and its member states were in a position to facilitate the achievement of the first SDG, i.e. eradication of poverty. Although the team's goals to ensure that every individual has access to the best services has not yet been fully achieved, it is possible to identify that much progress has been made in comparison with the former situation on the ground.
Zero Hunger
This was a significant problem that as identified during the formation of the committee's SDG's. This is because, in the 21st century, it is a failure if an individual in any part of the world no matter how remote died of hunger-related issues. The organization, therefore, came up with sustainable food production measures including irrigation, land reclamation and rehabilitation to ensure that more land was being put under productive use. As a result, this helped to raise the food security conditions in the country, thereby helping in hunger eradication.
Third world countries were also provided with aid in better crop propagation methods, farming methods as well as quality storage of harvested produce. This helped to increase food security in the region, thereby helping to eradicate hunger (WHO & Mathers, 2016). Other reforms such as price regulations were put in place for all the agricultural-related production aspects, thereby helping in ensuring that there were no any unjust dealings that would sabotage the implementation of the above SDG.
Good-health and wellbeing
Health is an essential aspect of our existence, and it is necessary to ensure that an individual can maintain their productivity. In the presence of a poor health structural system, then it becomes relatively difficult for the maintenance of top productivity. As a result, the UN and member state SDG's identified the necessity of quality healthcare as an instrumental aspect that would facilitate the implementation of the subsequent developmental agendas. The main objectives, therefore, included the improvement of the health sector across the world and mostly in the disease and ill health stricken regions (Desa, 2016). As a result, there was the setting up of temporary health structures that performed diagnostic services.
This helped in the early detection of disease before its advancement into more critical stages. As a result, this helped to detect chronic illnesses promptly, thereby helping prevent their further spread which could make the treatment process more complicated. Other non-chronic diseases were also treated using the most effective treatment approach. As per now, it is possible to say that the SDG's set out objectives concerning health as well as general wellbeing has been achieved (Colglazier, 2015).
Conclusion
The sustainable developmental goals initiative was conceptualized in the year 2015, and 15 years later, it is possible to see the profound impact that the action has had on the general sustainability measure. As we speak now, the world is a better place to live in than it was 15 years ago and we look forward to the continued positive impact from all the SDG's outlined in the UN and member states initiative.
