The low GPA and academic probation have greatly been affected by personal circumstances. The individual issues adversely affected my grades. Various reasons contributed to my poor academic performance. Before joining California State University, Northridge, I was in a community college. Therefore, I found adjusting to a new environment to be a hard transition. I was also unprepared because of the more advanced difficulty of the assignments in the university. In the new environment, I was unfamiliar with most of the students and had to begin a new social life. A more contributory factor to my low GPA and eventually academic probation were the psychological concerns that I had. The psychological issues included anxiety, depression, and stress. Depression led to few or at times, no conversation with fellow students. Therefore, I studied on my own and did assignments without any consultation from other students. I found anxiety and depression to impact my ability to learn negatively. I had to prioritize my alarming psychological issues which could have interfered with my health and eventually my studies. I had to attend numerous and intensive therapy sessions to counteract the problems faced. I was advised that the issues may put my mental health at risk and lead to behavioral and social issues. I was also informed that the continued existence of psychological problems might lead to resistance to anything school-related, which includes disinterests in planning for the future. I was also advised that anxiety and depression may have a negative impact on working memory. They also can affect the ability to retain new information taught in class and also one can have trouble recalling any information that had been previously taught. The sessions, therefore, contributed to my absence in school. Thus, I missed some of the lectures at the university, which contributed to a low GPA.
During the semester of spring 2016, I was on medication. I had to take pills which would aid in depression and anxiety. The pills, at times, had adverse effects on my body, and I ended up feeling sick and dizzy. I was under the supervision of my psychotherapist and had to try other drugs that were prescribed to me. I was, therefore, under a close watch from the psychotherapist to ensure that the different drugs used would solve the issues that I had. The medications contributed to the generation of various hormones in my body. The hormones would fluctuate each time and day. I, therefore, found it risky and unfit to attend the lectures. The medications and their effects, therefore, made it impossible for me to participate in the university classes, thereby decreasing my GPA score and eventually leading to academic probation.
Conclusion
Anxiety and depression were the prevalent psychological issues that affected my studies. The problems prevented me from attending classes and lose focus on school. The issues adversely affected my grades and academic progress and brought under achievements. The medications I took affected my health and fluctuated my hormones, making it impossible to attend lectures. I also have an unusual disorder that is highly improbable to diagnose. Currently, I am still on individual therapy and intensive psychotherapy sessions in the hope that my issues will elapse. I am still on medication and pills to knock off the psychological problems and disorders. However, as the psychological issues and disorders come to an end, I am focused on contributing to the California State University's mission and vision. I aim to uplift my grades and improve my GPA once I am in proper mental and health conditions.
