However, the privations immigrants have been going through in America; contradict the expectations of many people, who risk their lives to get to a nation branded land of opportunities. Asylum seekers get in the United States expecting to receive a cordial welcome, but they end up frustrated with the reception. Immigrants endure different forms of discrimination while entering and in the course of settling in America making it difficult for them to settle in a nation they perceive peaceful and democratic.

Today, America has been turning its back to immigrants looking up to her for survival and reestablishing from the debris of war and segregation in their home countries (Potocky & Naseh, 2015). For instance, at the border terminals, some immigrants are denied entry to the country they hoped would have helped them secure a safe place to live. The affected individuals and families then become stranded and desperate for a temporary place to settle. In some cases, some families end up separated, which is a distressing experience.

Similarly, immigrants that have secured a place to live in America are also subjected to agony and suffering. For instance, over 200 million immigrants are at risk of deportation. Likewise, areas within 100 miles are not habitable for asylum seekers due to the oppression they endure in the hands of border patrol officers. Most of the states near the borders expose immigrants to the so-called "reasonable suspicion" search and interrogation. According to the ACLU database, 82 percent of foreign citizens searched and interrogated by border police are Latino, and almost a third are American citizens (Potocky & Naseh, 2015). The warrantless searches obstruct efforts by police departments to cooperate with local peoples making everyone feel unsafe.

Conclusion

In conclusion, with the current immigration processes, asylum seekers have found themselves in anguish because of their religion and race. The immigration policies in America hinders the quest for asylum seekers to access and secure a safe place to live in the United States. Therefore, being a democratic nation, the American government needs to review its immigration plans to grant passage to immigrants in need of asylum from religion execution, war, human rights violation, and advance climatic conditions, among other factors.
