The video made use of pictures to show how unions organized strikes. Some of the photographs showed how workers organized sit-down strikes. These strikes mainly involved workers occupying the plants but did not work. In one of the images, a young man is shown sleeping as part of the strike (CrashCourse, 2013). The video, therefore, helped demonstrate the power that unions were granted as people organized strikes to help fight for increased wages.
What questions remain unanswered after the presentation?
Why did the New Deal fail to end the Great Depression? From the video, the programs introduced created employment opportunities, helped increase the wages of workers, and provided subsidies to farmers. The conditions seemed to be better than they were before the Great Depression. What should the government have done to make the New Deal successful? COVID-19 poses a risk to the United States with the possibility of another depression. So what lessons can be learned from the New Deal in case of another depression?
