Worldwide approximately 1 billion people consume tobacco products, a high number of them coming from developing countries. Health institutions have been much concerned with the upward trend of tobacco consumption and have come up with strategies to promote the secession of the habit through health promotion activities.

Health life Foundation is a non-governmental charity organization that endeavors to support to lung cancer patients in the management of the disease and to offer public education on the health hazard of consuming tobacco. The foundation was established in 2002 by David Russell, a Lung Cancer Survivor. The organization is located in the Minnesota Brighton community and offers inpatient and outpatient services to patients with lung cancer of the lung. And since then has reached out to many people about tobacco addiction. The organization helps these people to disengage from tobacco use and offers help to those who need health care and rehabilitation services. The organization deals explicitly with helping the older population in managing lung cancer.

Lung cancer is one of the major diseases that are caused by excessive consumption of tobacco. Tobacco can be consumed through cigarettes, vaping, hookah, and tobacco chewing. Lung cancer is a disease caused by the use of tobacco. Recently the cancer of the lung was attributed to the primary cause of death from cancer in New Zealand, which accounted for almost 20% of deaths of cancer. The disease develops from a malignant tumor in the lungs that stops the normal functioning of the lungs. Symptoms of cancer of the lung include chest pain, weight loss, and shortness of breath, persistent cough, wheezing, bronchitis, and blood-streaked sputum. The diagnostic procedure consists of the patient's history blood test, imaging X-rays, physical examination of the patient, cytology, and biopsy. The disease is managed through surgery radiation therapy, chemotherapy, molecularly targeted treatments, and, lastly, molecularly targeted drug therapies. The most effective means of preventing lung cancer is quitting to smoke.

Men are most vulnerable in getting lung cancer according to a Centre for Disease Control Report in the USA; it is indicated that in the year 2015, 218 527 people had lung cancer amongst them, including 113,535 five men and 104992 women. Between the white and black men, black men are at a higher risk off getting lung cancer. This disparity was attributed to biological makeup and Lifestyle. The lifestyle factor contributed more to this difference in USA men drink more than women, and the drinking is always accompanied by smoking. Men drink a lot of alcohol does add weight and did not do exercises regularly, and that contributes to the risk of getting lung cancer. Unlike women, men tend to visit a doctor less compared to their counterparts.

Our priority as HealthyLife Foundation is to help affected males in Brighton to manage cancer and cease consuming tobacco. As a foundation, in 2018, we started a football campaign that is meant to reach out to men. Through this club, we can get men together and offer them training sessions on how to stop the addiction of tobacco and to sensitize them on going for check-ups immediately. They sense that they may be having cancer, and also, we encourage them to play to stay fit. We also have a support group for those already undergoing treatment.

The risk factors associated with lung cancer include active smoking of tobacco second-hand tobacco consumption, Radon exposure, and other cancer agents such as diesel exhaust acetic or and chemicals such as arsenic. The potential learning needs for cancer patients include:

  • (i)Early detection
  • (ii) initial investigation and referral,
  • (iii) diagnosis, staging, and treatment
  • (iv) post-treatment care and recovery and lastly,
  • (v) management of recurrence or metastatic disease

HealthyLife Foundation is committed to helping lung cancer patients cope with the disease through; proposing the best type of treatment, to undergo treatment depending on and the stage of cancer, the formation of a support group for cancer patients, and lastly, offering dietary information.

At HealthyLife Foundation, the well-being of our patients and their families is our priorities; that is why we have come up with the strategy to improve the health off the patients with lung cancer. First, we offer patients with lung cancer education on healthy eating. Through our football club, we can sensitize our cancer patients on the need to keep fit and through regular exercises, predicate the cancer patients on how to scissor taking alcohol, and lastly improving their psychological well-being through counseling programs and support groups.

Goals are essential in Keeping a cancer patient in check as a way of improving his or her health. the patient support program in the healthy Life Foundation helps the patient in managing their symptoms through services like physical needs, psychological needs information needs, spiritual needs and social needs. The patient, the doctor, and the caregiver should set goals on a diet for the patient; regular visits to the hospital for therapies or counseling sessions, stress, and depression management

Managing cancer is costly. Therefore, health concern in Cancer patients is essential in health promotion because it will help both the patients, the caregiver, and health practitioners to improve the health status of the sick, support their families, support the communities in managing cancer, while enhancing the quality of life for everyone .also such promotions prevent premature death and Focuses on preventing will reduce costs to the patients their families and the States in general.
