Importance of Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy has a broader range of essential services to clients and also to occupational therapists. To the clients, therapists help patients who have impairments, injuries, illnesses, and disabilities (Michel, 54). They educate their patients on useful skills that help them to care about their everyday activities and live quality, and productive lives in their environment. They also ensure that their clients are taught various techniques of living and involve them in various community activities (Delany et al., 167).

Occupational therapists have a comprehensive objective, were they do not only aim at improving patient's abilities to handle a given occupation, but they also help the client to adapt to the new environment to enhance the patient's adaptability to the area upon their return home. At different leading Rehabilitation hospital centers, the patient's family member's support is highly regarded as very useful during the recovery process of the client (Maxim et al., 78).

After the treatment of the patient, the assigned occupational therapist carry out the following services to ensure that the client recover fully and live a better life, for example; The OT interrogate the client and family members to determine the person's goal in life, this serves as a better foundation for recover process of the patient. The occupational therapist ensures that the patient attends regular treatment programs to improve the clients' ability to perform their daily lifestyle activities (Mroz et al., 56). Recommends training as an adaptive mechanism and to enhance faster recovery, and also play evaluation of the check on the progress of the recovery process of patients and also provide various modifications if necessary for the recovery plan. The therapists also help prevent all time going to the patients by providing improved and advanced services to the client. Assisting patients to' to be able to depend on themselves is also a service to the clients by educating them on the methods to take care of themselves in case something of the same situation happens to them in the future. And finally, family members and caregivers can be trained on multiple measures to learn when supporting the patient at home.

Occupational therapy also is of importance to the therapists in some ways, including; providing the base for learning ore and getting skills on the effects of their day to day activities in their field of specialization. Also, the course work in the psychological health for occupational therapists help them to acquire knowledge and skills to be able to know more about the patient behaviors' concerning their problems before the actual therapy, to improve their ability to rehabilitate patients and be able to enable the patient to cope well and be back to their average capacity before the tragedy. Occupational therapy also improves the ability of the therapist to be research work by providing questions on various issues during the therapy work. Through the therapy work, the therapists can prioritize the patients' problems and deal with them separately, improving the effectiveness of their work. Finally, therapists can earn themselves living by being able to secure employment.

Methodology

Methods used to collect the data, was through interviews with various occupational therapists based in multiple hospitals, though observing different patients who have recovered with the help of professional therapists since observation is done to get the clients behaviors in their natural setting clearly and therefore is not readily associated with forged behavior. This helps in proper patient evaluation and better performance after therapy. Also, the literature review of the medical published journals and books about occupational therapy and its importance to the clients provides a clear view of other therapists' know-how and understanding by answering the various question related to occupational therapy while providing a base for further study.

Implications

Occupational therapy's history is explored to determine some of its impacts; for example, the occupational therapy profession was founded with an aim and vision to study about nature of human beings and the essential need for activity. Their occupational therapy can be of great importance to the society it (a) seeks and applies an epistemology consistent with studying human purposes, (b) fosters its optimistic view of human nature, and (c) clarifies its relationship to medicine and other disciplines.

Therefore everyone must try and support the occupational therapist to find people who will rescue members of most of our societies from coming suicides or dying of depressing just because they have nobody to share their problems with. Everyone can still meet their goals and dreams in life despite their life condition or social background provided they are given the right guidance. Hence, the work being done by most of the therapists are very commendable and vita the growth and development of our societies.
