"Yes." Diana nodded her head and imitated her father's optimistic tone as she said, "Dad and Tim were right. What happened was necessary. It happened so fast, and they can't change it. The single thing they can change is their minds. They have to accept the bill. I don't know what their reactions will be but I think I'll now be a heroine. Or perhaps a villain."

All the expectations to uphold a perfect image. Being ordered around. Being ridiculed for any mistakes. Parents scared of her actions. Parents too scared of the impending ridicule or worse if they decided to let her be. Her longing for all to be over. To just let it all go away for something that had started as a political campaign. Or perhaps it had started with ambition, and Diana hadn't discerned. "Well, time to face their fears had come. A new day had come."

Diana tried to stand, wrapped her scarf around her forehead and studied the situation as it unfolded. She was pleased and didn't consider hiding or running away when she looked at the rubble. Two floors of solid work brought down to prove a point. People who thought they knew her would be shocked. They thought they knew it all and their arrogance had come to naught. They thought they could control her. They couldn't. Not anymore.

"It's over." Diana thought to herself, looking away from the rescuers and glancing at the damage. 'You know it's over for you. Or there's a possibility of mercy if I reveal Tim as the mastermind. "Once she revealed the matter, she won't have to bear the whole burden alone. "We've already been in so much pain as a family, right? I'm sure this will break my father's heart." Diana stretched over and held the light, white oxygen mask they'd insisted on fixing around her nose, then outside the ambulance window. She closed her eyes and could see her father shocked beyond words. "It's all going to be okay," she assured herself. Or it wouldn't.

She looked down at the bruises on her body another time. After being subdued for years, she knew she was done play-acting. Nothing was the same again, and she was going to prison. She would no longer be the perfect daughter. The sound of her mother's voice echoing in her ears, Diana went back to the moment she met Tim. In a moment of reflection, she went through everything they had talked about, including the greater good.

Everything he'd convinced her to do was done. Vivid to all and sundry. Today she had taken matters into her own hands. She was no longer waiting for someone else to do something. She had placed all the burden of change onto her shoulder and was no longer free. It was no longer a normal life from now. Her big statement was made. Her desire to change her life was real. And it wasn't just her life that she had changed after going through with it.

Conclusion

And now she was ready to be cut loose from society. She deserved jail time. She had killed her two colleagues and caused massive damage. The reality was fast dawning on her. "Okay," Diana said with a deliberate sigh. "If that's all there is to live for, I've got to accept it. There wasn't much I could do for the school, and I'm sure I'll not miss it." In the ambulance, she grabbed her broken leg and held it in position. She then looked up at the roof of the ambulance. "No need to act tough anymore. If they want to incarcerate her, let them. She was past any hint of self-pity, and she wasn't going back.
