The Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas Medical district serves the Dallas County's public hospital. It is situated within the Southwestern medical district. It is located in 5201 Harry Hines Boulevard a mile from its original location Oak Lawn Avenue. The Parkland hospital community is faced with the challenges of proper housing for all the people. There are homeless settlers since there are no affordable houses in the neighborhood. The ones available are mostly for the students, for short term stay and cooperate with expensive housing. The hospital has therefore decided to come up with 22 homeless shelters. The available houses are being kept up and new ones built. The housing units are on the rise with the prior value being 29,992 and in 2018, being at 30,224 (Cerise et al., 2019). The homeownership of the Missouri County's value is depreciating as the U.S county values are rising to pose an increase in the prices of houses within the parklands community. There are many other hospitals in the Parklands Community of Dallas, which can be easily accessed. The community hospitals are Methodist hospital, Dallas Presbyterian, Medical city, Hunt Regional Medical center, which is within a range of 4.5 to 50miles away from the southwestern medical center campus (Parikh et al., 2009). Not all people of the community have insurance, with the whites being the most insured. The people living in the community are mostly the white population followed by African American then by American-Indian and Alaska. The race and ethnic differences have posed significant health disparities by geographical location (Cerise et al., 2019). African American and people living in areas situated in Southeast Dallas continue to experience the utmost weight of illness and death.
The parkland community does have public spaces but are facing the challenge of some of the spaces being privatized. The spaces are open to all encouraging diversity and well-kept since it surrounds the health care facilities and other social amenities like schools and churches. In public spaces, there are cafes and food vendors. There is a public transport system that works between 8 am to 4 pm weekdays, and 5 pm to 7 am long term care after house services.
There is more unused land around the new parkland hospital. Prospects indicate that in the future, more apartments will be set up, more social amenities. The challenge the people are having is lack of enough social facilities despite having schools, hospital and churches around (Parikh et al., 2009). The community has good roads and sidewalks, although the community does not seem to be equally served by infrastructure services. It depends on who lives where the people in the southwestern cannot be compared to those in the eastern part. There is also a traffic challenge the community faces since the region is rapidly developing.
