The success of an organization depends on the levels of commitment from the employees. For instance, employees should be able to finish their tasks on time and do them excellently. To help employees to improve, it is essential to understand what causes their underperformance. Understanding root causes makes it easy to devise mechanisms to get solutions. As a human resource manager, I would focus on understanding why my employee is always late and unable to deliver. From there, I can know the best approach to take.

The first step towards solving the challenge is communicating to the employees on the organization's expectations. It is crucial to make the employees aware of the organization's expectations and what it means to work according to the standards (Fall, 2020). Not having these conversations makes the employees relaxed, and they can fall short of the organization's standards. I would talk with the employee to make sure that he understands what the company demands. Employees need to understand what they are supposed to do and how to do it.

The second step is ensuring that employee performance appraisals are consistent. It is essential to ensure that employees prioritize their work goals in their daily operations (Fall, 2020). Reminding employees their work goals helps to keep them on toes. They are aware of the company's vision, which keeps them motivated to do everything on time. I would make the employee aware of his performance appraisals to keep him motivated in achieving his tasks.

The third step is working to improve the morale of the employees. Employees perform excellently and deliver when they are highly motivated. The motivation can get attained by improving the working conditions of the employees to ensure that they are working under safe conditions and are well-satisfied. With proper remuneration, employees are also likely to perform, and rewards, employees are also expected to perform well. I would put mechanisms in place to ensure that the employee is well satisfied with the working conditions and issues such as remuneration. Dissatisfied employees are likely to perform lowly. Hence I would ensure that the employee is comfortable by creating better conditions.

The last step is empowering employees to improve their performance. Employees need to be empowered to do their jobs well. They need to know that it is their responsibility to perform. I would make it clear to the employee that he needs to up his standards. I would give him the urge and the drive to work to fulfill the organization's dream. Empowering the employees gives them the authority to make decisions that can be vital in improving their performance. Workers need to understand that they are their managers and need to work to their best levels. Employees should be given all the resources and allowed to make their decisions. They should learn to be responsible. In this case, empowering the employee, giving him the authority to act out of his own will would make him become more accountable and work to beat deadlines.

Conclusion

In a nutshell, sometimes employees underperform, it is crucial not to undervalue employees when they are on their worst days. The best way to help underperforming employees is to motivate them to pull themselves together. Sometimes employees lose sight of their responsibilities because of daily life issues that lowers their morale. It is crucial to get the workers on their best performances by talking to them and understanding their troubles. Joint efforts between human resource management and workers help improve on performance. Rewarding employees, according to their efforts, makes them feel that their contribution is valued. Employees should be allowed to learn from their mistakes and improve. Underperformance does not mean that employees cannot turn things around. It is up for the organizations to ensure that employees maintain the right spirit and motivation.
