Introduction
Feminism has been a major topic of debate across the globe for centuries. Some believe that one is not born a woman but rather becomes a woman through gender socialization. Females become women through a process in which they acquire feminine traits and learn feminine behaviors. The film, Little Women 2019, is an American drama film written to illustrate the typical lifestyle of women back in 1868 regarding four young sisters. They include Jo March, Meg March, Amy March, and Beth March.
The Themes of the Film with full Explanation
One of the themes used in the film is the inclusion of different diverse cultures that were present during the Civil war era. The theme is aimed at informing the audience that culture plays a powerful role in everything and shapes the world and actions of the characters. It revolves around four sisters who are forced to live together while experiencing hardships in their lives. The film's originality is entirely based on happenings back then with relation to the classic novel. Creative cinematography as a theme is used to construct the viewer's ideology about the great depression present at that time and the social issues about womanhood, what is expected of women, and their roles (BKR, 2019). The use of flashbacks as a theme teleports the audience back and forth to the past. It presents issues comprised in the film, maintaining the film's originality and presumption of ideas. Color composition and structures are creatively applied as themes hence making the film more appealing by paying attention to diverse issues of that era.
How the Version of the Classic Story represents the Modern Female Perspective
The film, as a classic story on the modern female perspective, illustrates how various women are, at times, deemed socially unworthy of any praise. For example, when Jo March is hurt by Friedrich Bhaer, who is a professor fascinated by her and constructively criticizes her workings, causing her to end her friendship. The scene depicts how any modern female gets obstacles thrown her way for not doing what the society expects of them and, therefore, their wishes and needs are not considered. Jo March tentatively views herself as a man and, at times, refutes the gender (Muhibbu-Din, 2019). This begets the modern need for inclusion of diverse genders' that is about the LGBTQ group, which has been a major feministic debate on rights inclusion for members of the society that feel they have the right to choose their path.
Character of Preference
Jo March is an ideal character to study. She is enthusiastic and passionate about her ideas and views. She is sound-minded, open to new ideas, and aims at improving and earning a position for herself and family. She possesses leadership skills and corrective decision-making ability by choosing on what fronts she likes, offering a helping hand to her family members, and others in need of her assistance. She possesses the ability to learn from any letdowns and mold herself to be stronger based on what she has experienced. She sacrifices personal gains for family closure, intuitive at decisive moments, and a perfect example of a modern feminist (Pugh, 2019). She is futuristic and aims to perfect her current actions.
Conclusion
In summary, feminism is a growing concern with the need to develop proper commanding structures on what roles and gender play at workplaces and social gatherings. The film Little Women Film 2019, has accurately contributed to the gender debate by portraying characters that struggle for position. Different themes have also been discussed, as noted herein.
