Introduction
International Organization for Standardization ISO, is defined as an organization that lays down the standards for companies in terms of quality of the products and services they produce. These standards are set depending on the industry, such as food and safety (Armstrong et al., 2018). ISO certification validates different conditions and capacities for a company. However, the certifications alone do not represent the capacity for a given function. Iso standards are necessary for firms when competing in the modern market because they mandate help the firms to improve the quality of the products they supply to their clients (Barafort et al., 2017). These standards are also important when competing globally as they assure the consumers the organizations that manufacture services and goods while following all the standards.
Factors to Consider when Deciding Whether to become Certified
When deciding whether to become certified, a company should take into account the specified norms, rules, and regulations within the regulation. that assists them to compete with other companies in terms of quality. Other factors to consider are the nature of the industry and the production process. For instance, when the production process of a company follows high quality standards, it may not require ISO certification. However, when an organization feels that their product is not internationally marketable and needs more acceptance, there may be a need for ISO certification (Paunescu et al., 2018). This certification is necessary in this case, for assuring consumers that the products are of standard and high quality.
Example of ISO Certification of an Organization
Companies that use ISO certification enjoy plenty of benefits that are helpful in competing with other organizations. A good example of a company that is ISO certified is the Ban Hong Poultry Pte Ltd in Singapore (Jayasinghe, 2016). The company is certified under ISO 22000 (Food and Safety) with its scope of business being to supply and transport fresh chilled chicken and chicken parts (Casolani et al., 2019). Certifying the company has enabled Ban Hong Poultry PTE Ltd to compete with other companies in the industry since consumers need to be sure that they are prepared under hygienic conditions and hence the need to certify with the ISO.
