It felt it had a task of condemning slavery and, therefore, could not allow it to continue. In essence, the annexation of Texas happened in 1845. The Republic of Texas joined the US as the 28th state on 29th December 1845. Additionally, the Republic of Texas declared its independence from Mexico in 1836. Mexico was so serious about keeping Texas; however, its leader Van Buren knew this would lead to war. Also, he was against adding a new Union that favored slavery. Still, the essential thing that led to the Texas revolution was the refusal of many residents from Texas to accept changes of the government into placing power on the Mexican government and also Santa Anna. Consequently, this led to the Mexican American war that lasted between 1846 to 1848 (Henderson, 2019). It helped in fulfilling the destining of the US of expending to the north.

Besides, the Americans had a total belief that they were supposed to expand. Therefore in the 19th century, they believed that it was their right to concentrate and expand towards the west (Henderson, 2019). Thus, when the people revolted against the government of Texas, then they saw this as the perfect opportunity to expand towards that area. However, at first, they had declined because they did not want to include a state that was getting involved in slavery. The source of the conflict was mainly attributed to the boundaries which had been established. The US claimed that the border between Mexico and Texas was at the Rio Grande. Therefore they argued that the border was in their territory; consequently, they had to ensure that they fought for their territory.

Notably, the US had to justify its actions as it believed it was right in doing what is considered good, like annexing Texas. Besides, it believed it was its destiny to expand, especially towards the north therefore it was its sole responsibility to take Texas. Also, the fact that the people of Texas always wanted to join the United States of America was important in their consideration (Godina & Soto-Ramirez, 2017). They believed that as the United States, they had a role in strengthening and doing whatever the people wanted them to do. Therefore they had to expand, strengthen, and grow so that they would become powerful.

All in all, there have been a lot of conflicts all over the world. However, it is crucial to note that most conflicts help one party as the other as left with a loss. In this case, the US was the main beneficiary as it gained Texas. For a country to grow in power, it must have so much influence on the outside world. Therefore the US was able to gain superiority after annexing Texas. Finally, citizens need to show their patriotism towards their country. Just like the Americans in Texas did, citizens should help their country grow in superiority, which is incredibly essential.
