The first significant use of tax money is to fund the health sector. Most of the public health facilities are dependent on taxation money which is distributed by the national government to buy the medicine, equipment, start new projects among other vital functions. The taxation money is collected from the citizens and a particular portion allocated to such. The money is also used in opening up programs such as insurance for children among others. In some of the less developed countries, the facilities their lac equipment and drugs because very little tax money is allocated to medical facilities. Some corruption scandals also render the hospitals inferior because all their money is stolen. In some nations like Zimbabwe where Miss Ednar has been, the cases of embezzlement are so high that the facilities offering such quality healthcare are less than 30. As a result, the people in the country have to look for alternative forms of healthcare such as being flown to developed countries for medical care.
The second use of tax money is to pay public servants (Musolino, 2015). The government gives jobs to qualified people all over the country ranging from doctors, teachers, police officers and many more. The workers are entitled to salaries at the end of each month. The government collects the tax money and uses a large portion of it to pay the workers. Moreover, taxation money is used in the defense and security of the citizens. Many resources are used in ensuring that the people in the country are safe. The police officers need to be paid, ammunitions bought, police cells built and many more activities all to protect the citizens from both internal and external attacks. The funding of all the above activities depends on tax money. In the 2014 fiscal year, 23% of the federal budget went to social security. Finally, the tax money is used in paying off loans take from international debtors.
Another important use of tax revenue is to improve the infrastructure of a place. The government has the duty of building roads, schools, and other public amenities. Such projects consume a lot of funds. A large amount of income comes from tax levies imposed on the citizens. Facilities such as fields, public transport such as trams, public schools and hospitals are also counted under infrastructure. The leaders are bound by the responsibility of ensuring that the proper allocation of the income adequately funds all the above processes.
Another use is the expansion of the existing amenities such as hospitals, schools and many more. The revenue may also be used in opening up new means that the government gains federal income. An excellent example is the industries. They turn the available material into useful end products that can be consumed both locally and internationally. The exported material is used to get foreign exchange while those products used locally also earn revenue. This is crucial in the development of the nation.
As seen above, it is essential that the tax money is well credited for. The governmental organizations handling the money have to be very wise in allocating the funds. The reason for this is to ensure that they give only the right proportions of cash to the projects and ensure that each of the projects that depend on tax money are well funded and have excellent resources to function. It would be unwise if the medical sector has all the resources at the expense of the security sector. In some cases when the revenue is not enough, the leaders have to priorities the most critical aspects. It would be unwise for example to build a road at the expense of buying medicine for a hospital. The people, therefore, have to analyses the situation they are faced with critically.
`Miss Ednar informed me about a different category of taxes named custom duties. Under this category, there is a levy imposed on imported goods. In earlier years, they were known as, and their main aim was to protect the local industries from the extreme competition by external products (Brick, 2017). The countries also restricted the movement of goods in and out of the country by charging very high, especially on competing goods. In modern days, however, the charges are calculated as a percentage of the value of the goods which makes it easier to import goods. There are places where the goods are imported without the tax primarily when the countries have formed trade unions. The formation of such unions makes the countries appear as one big trade community with no boundaries on it. The essence of such is to ensure that the nations grow each other economically. It is applicable in cases when the countries produce similar goods such as tea and coffee for export. T differentiate the goods from the countries where they come from, they are examined at the border for their country of origin. Finally, Mrs. Ednar told us about the payroll taxes. The first category is unemployment taxes which is levied on people and firms to cover for the cost of unemployment insurance.
The above data collected was essential in making decisions abou...
