Introduction

The earliest age that has been known to post a significant opportunity for learning of skills by children is 3 to 6 years old (Becton, 2019). It has been researched that children who were introduced to learning at a tender age have greater tendencies to progress in schools than children introduced to learning at a later age. The concepts of learning that influence language development and learning include reading, rhyming, talking, and singing. As such, the development of literacy skills in children early enough poses as an advantage to their school life, regarding success in their reading skills. However, research has it that approximately one in three American children lack the essential literacy skills required in learning (Ford, 2016). As such, the main focal point of this paper is to evaluate the foundations in early literacy development.

The development of children has been an area that I have focused on my whole life. As such, several sections of early literacy development have influenced my thinking. They include oral language and phonological awareness. Children develop learning skills the way they develop talking skills. As such, comprehending the latter has been beneficial for shaping my foundation in early literacy development. Phonological awareness, on the other hand, provides an essential link between written and oral languages (Ford, 2016). Understanding this enables one to handle children with caution and teach them the necessary skills required in integrating oral and written language.

The section about literacy development that I tend to dislike is the print concept. Children after developing a link between oral and written language, are expected to read printed materials which usually is used in testing the intelligence of the children. All people are equal and no material printed by an intellectual should be used in gauging the intelligence of any person.

As mentioned earlier, the course is vital in the contemporary world. What surprised me from the course is the amount of significance it has on shaping the amount of excel a child would acquire in their school lives. Effective literacy education and skills will enable a child to write effectively and harness what their teachers explain to them in class. As such, literacy education shapes the whole life of an individual, and such, it should be provided the right way.

A child's future success is decedent on their pre-literacy foundation (Ford, 2016). As such, the most important thing to learn from the course involving literacy development is the role that the surrounding of a child poses to their growth. The caregivers and guardians of a child should teach their children the essential skills required to learn, to be able to improve their future. Families should be empowered in the bid to boost the courage and skills required by children to tackle contemporary problems involving learning.

Two strategies that I developed after learning foundation in literacy development include, running a finger under each word when reading and focusing on vocabulary (Becton, 2019). When a child reads a piece of information with their fingers under each world, their reading skills are increasingly developed as it increases their concentration on the words and spellings of the words available. Secondly, the vocabulary of a child is long learned before they start reading or writing or even talking (Fernandez & Nixon, 2013). As such, good vocabulary should be used when a person is around growing children, to ensure the best is captured by the children, hence enhancing their literacy skills.

Topic: Early Literacy Development

Its what children comprehend about writing and reading before actually writing and reading What is the discrepancy between what you wanted to learn about literacy and what you already learned from the course? I wanted to get an understanding of how I could help children improve their pre-literacy foundation. However, the course helped my cause by providing the various strategies required to improve the pre-literacy foundation. For example, focusing on vocabulary

As previously mentioned, the foundation of children in literacy development must be effective. As such, effective planning is as important to ensure that the pre-literacy foundation is crucially executed (Ford, 2016). For instance, it might help a teacher organize their lessons based on the skills they want to impart on kids. Children should be taught how to listen effectively before embarking on reading since they are known o learn from the environment through seeing and listening.

Several improvements can be made to literacy development courses that can aid in improving the skills children acquire before even participating in schools. For instance, parents should be taught on the importance of telling their kids stories on a daily routine as it will increase their listening capabilities and teach them vital lessons of tackling life issues, which is usually the lessons learned from a majority of stories (Fernandez & Nixon, 2013). The parents should also make reading a daily routine and ask children what they have understood after the reading of the provided materials. Schools responsible for instilling literacy skills in children should also borrow these concepts as they would improve the pre-literacy foundation of children in a significant manner.

Several aspects of literacy foundation that have not been tackled but are as important to understand include narrative skills, letter knowledge, phonemic awareness, singing literacy practice, and playing practice. Shedding light on these areas would significantly improve the understanding of the course and have a major impact on children under pre-literacy foundation programs.
