Introduction
From the still face experiment, I believe that human being is born ready for connection. This implies that how human being is parented has got a long term impact on our functioning. The effect of every early human life can impact changes genetically, socially as well as cognitively, which means that there can be long term consequences either negative or in a positive way. I believe that this experiment is an excellent study that shows human needs for connection in our early life. This experiment was carried out by Dr. Tronick in the early 1970s, which has been used mostly by a parent to give an insight to parents on how they are likely to influence the emotional development of a baby. From my perspective, the behavior of a person can change other people and impact them either positively or negatively. From the experiment, the baby and the mother sit facing each other, where she starts to play with the baby. The interaction between the baby and the mother impacts the bay, making her respond to the mother's reaction by making some movement and sound.
I believe this experiment demonstrates how a human being is vulnerable such that all being exhibit emotional or non-emotional reactions, especially to the being they are close to. This shows that babies are trying to achieve connection with those surrounding them by learning their relational environment. However, babies were believed to have been unable to comprehend emotions. Although the experiment has an apparent reaction where there is a lack of emotional connection from their parents. Young babies have shown that there are very sensitive such that they can react by responding to the emotions of an adult who cares for their well-being. Babies are also actively engaging and shaping their relationship with their adult. Various factor contributes to how the parent is likely to struggle to be present with their kids. Although in an environment where there is domestic violence, a parent faces difficulty in showing emotions. Still face experiment is one of the most reliable measurements of a baby cognition. This is a straightforward experiment that can be adopted by a parent in achieving a successful and healthy adult. I also believe that still face experiment has also provided an opportunity in for useful extent of a baby social world. However, this experiment is elicited by both the mother and the father.
Developmental Theory
The baby and parent attachment impact on the development of the child from the early stage until the time the baby matures. Using Freud's development theory of psychosexual, the development of a child is encountered by various conflicts during each step from childhood, which impacts on the personality of the child, and the behavior as well. Freud argues that the development of a child occurs in a series of several stages that are focused on the different pleasure of the child's body. In every step, the baby encounters conflict that is key to the course of development (Peet & Hartwick, 2009). Moreover, the theory demonstrates that the energy of the libido mostly focused on several erogenous zones at a specified stage.
Freud also argued that negligence to progress through a particular stage could result in fixation at a certain point in the development of the child. In connection to the still face experiment, if the parent fails to resolve a particular conflict in a certain stage of the child, there is a likelihood that there can be fixations that may impact on the behavior when the child get mature. However, if there is successful completion of every developmental stage, the child is likely to have a healthy adult personality. Therefore, this means that every developmental stage is very significant in the life of human being from childhood to adulthood.
